Well, on closer inspection I've found out that one of the threads on my ion grip is now so worn down the screw just spins in the hole, it's effectievly stripped.

Has anyone else some across this problem and found a viable solution short of buying a new frame?

As the ion frame seems to be a pretty soft alloy is re-tapping the thread for a larger screw or possibly using a helicoil an option?

Any suggestion on a suitable tap size as the std screw is listed as
6-32 x 5/16".

Helicoil is a waste of time, if you were to go down the repair route then use nothing less than Time-sert. Thats the only permanant thread repair out there, but comes at quite a hefty price tag.

My advice is to pm Tom allen, he'll be able to sort you out. Tell him i sent you then he'll either charger you more or take 8 weeks to get back to you :p;):D

Cheers for the offer Oily

My Dad must have enough tools to start his own one-man engineering company so he probably has all the necessary tools.

If you've done this before what I could really use is some advice on thread and tap sizes and what needs to be done

I understand the std ion grip screw is 6-32 which is about 3.5 mm in metric and the screw length is 5/16" which is about 8mm (length is a little irrelevant as I have the hybrid grips which need a shorter screw anyway)

If you can tell me what I need then I can take things from there.

can you pick up the screws from places like homebase/B&Q/Wickes ?

Your assistance is much appreciated.
