Ion + freak + draxxus frostbite
I have pumped a load of draxxus frostbite through my Ion using a freak system, and seem to find that the 0.691 bore is about right. Gives good consistency over the chrono, therefore maxing out the distance of every shot whilst keeping within site limits.
If you have correctly chosen your bore size to match your batch of paint then depending on the make up of your ion you'll be running at anywhere between 110psi (up'd to the gods) to about 180psi (stock) to acheive just less than 300fps.
Wanted to get a bit more distance on my shots so have raised the psi up a little more (around 180psi), but in the manual its says not to raise above 200psi, whys this?
I personally am a bit confused about this. Why do you want more distance? Fair enough if you are mucking about in your 1 mile long garden or using your paintball on private land with authorisation, but for general paintball use, i.e. a game day you are limited to 300fps max whether you are firing a cheap marker or the latest Angel, and for arguments sake in general they will all fire the same distance unless you are using a flatline or apex barrel to extend range.
The fps limit is set for safety in in line with recomendations from the governing paintball body in the UK, to ensure that people do not get unduly hurt. Please take this into consideration when tinkering with your fps.
Despite this if u are that eager to fire max distance for mucking about set your Ion to what you want, however note manufacturers recomendations regarding internal max pressure of 200psi. You just will need to chrono this down for game days.
If your initial question was...
'how to do I fire paintballs farther whilst still keeping within the site fps limits?', get an apex barrel, which will allow spin to be placed on the paintball allowing extended range, curve balls to the left and right, and also drop shots into bunkers, however they are gas hungry and not kind to paint.
Oh, and I run my Ion at about 115psi and achieve a consisent 290 to 295 over the chrono. (Its up'd to the gods and I use consistent paint through a good tight but not overtight freak insert)
