what thread do i need to get having an ion? and what size of barrel is the best to play with as i am only use to the stock barrel? and last if ordering from smartparts what are the aluminium inserts for?

you need and impulse thread for your ion and the aluminium inserts are what determines the bore size of the barrel, only for the freak. if u r getting a progessive or such u n dont need an insert.
as for what barrel to get i have a freak on my ion, with a 14" tip and its a damn fine barrel to use.

Don't you mean visa versa mate?

Also stainless steel proveds a less friction surface so (in theory) the balls will accelerate smoother. Don't know if there is a decenable difference though.

I've currently got a pipe kit on my ion at the moment and its pretty nice - looks different from everyones freak kits too :).

Quite expensive, but if you check places like US ebay you can pick them up for a lot less than you'd think ( although I got stung for import tax on mine :( )
