What factors make a punter come back for more?

What then makes people want to get more into it and play more than just once a year on a company day out?

Having worked at a site and seeing the kids come through they are more into peoples gear and usually leave saying " I want one" And sometimes for the wrong reasons but due to the price and mum and dad telling them not till your ...... then what factors keep people coming back?

For me its tribal...

I was not interested in playing in the woods. Really didn't get into it. But played my first punter day, then went to a walk on day at Hotshots (urban) and then my third day was a tournament, which we won.

For me its all about being a team. We are going to shoot you. We are going to win. We are going to do this because we are bigger, better, faster and stronger than your team. And while we are playing the game you are trying to shoot my friends, which I absolutely will not allow.
That's it really.

:D

For me it's all of the above really, Adrenaline, Exercise(?!), Team play...and yes, it's just a damn good laugh....

I've read about, looked at and heard a lot about tournaments. Can't say they appeal as much, though I'm not sure why.... Perhaps it's that woods have more scope, better places to hide, etc, etc. But not having attended a tournament-style game yet I can't really justify that comment. :p

I guess It's all about legitimately being able to shoot people!!!
To have some taste of what it's like to be armed and camouflaged and hunting down "the other side" with the possibility of getting tagged yourself....safe in the knowledge that you'll all be going home at the end of it, "Sans bodybag".

It's a hobby quite different from any other, that's a big part of it too.....

With reference to P 'n' S's post above, here's my $0.02

I'm well into the woods and urban paintball thing. It seems to me that the vast majority of attention in post punter-day paintball (snappy huh? PPdP is now officially copyright me, ok? :p ) goes into tournaments and competition.

While this is obviously fine and cool since so many people clearly want to compete, for me it doesn't work so well. I don't play paintball to win at all costs, I play partly to have a good laugh, but mostly to exercise the ol' grey matter when you have only a general idea where the opposition is or even what they might be trying to achieve.

So - it'll be rec ball and especially scenario games for me then! Having met the Wild Geese scenario team at the Staar Warrs game earlier this year, I was happy to find out that they have a similar outlook - we got along pretty well that weekend!

Watch out for Spike on these boards if you want to find out more about them, he's the fount of all knowledge and wisdom on what the Geese are up to...

Not sure about "Font",possibly "Leaky Tap of Knowledge".I got back into paintball after many many years away, after trying it again and finding it a lot more fun than anything else I was doing.

Tourney is not for me.I have the greatest respect for those that play,oh to be that young and fit again.I enjoy the Rec/Scenario side of the game.It allows me to play without being disadvantaged by age or everincreasing girth and I get to throw exploding things, which is always a good thing in my book.

That is why we set up the Geese,to give a home to all the like minded players out there...there's safety in numbers.

Some sort of god
First played when i was 11 at a mates birthday.

Always loved any sport to do with aiming (archery, clay pigeon ect ect) so it was second nature. Plus the fact that i was so much better than my mates straight away there was no chance i wouldnt enjoy myself.

Would continuiously organise games at Mayhem for my mates just so i would have people to go with but ended up joining a team cause my cheapskate mates couldt be bothered to go evey month.
