Inter-University 5 Man Sup Air

Apparently there's going to be a 2nd Inter-University tournament in the same (academic) year in England! Wohooo!

This time it's been taken out of the woods and onto the sup air pitch.

The Date is scheduled for Sunday 20th March 2005.

The price is still being calculated, but expected to be approx £100 per team.

The last Inter-Uni tournament organised by Steve Hancock from the University of Birmingham was a great success, with 5 teams from Universities across the UK taking part. Hopefully we can top that next month.

Steve, if you'd like to ellaborate with more comprehensive details when you get the chance?

any decent unis down south do aeronautical engineering and need a front man?
Could this not be the perfect 'kick start' to getting something up and running? You only need 5 people from your uni to enter and you could use it as a spectical to promote paintball to everyone else.

Unfortunately I'll be tearing up the slopes in France that weekend, so Imperial have already lost their Top Gun....OK...fine....so they've lost their only actual sup air tourney player, so we might be in need of a bit of help that weekend.

I'll hype up the tournament down here in London when we have full details to see what response I get, but if we need a player Ryan, your more than welcome.
(After all, Imperial is a College of Science, Technology & Medicine - we've got plenty of you freakin' aero engineers down here :p )

Hi everyone,

Cheers for getting the word out, i've been without the web since moving house and hadn't gotten round to posting anything.

A few more details:

The tourney will be held on NPF's tourney fields, where they hold sup'air Sundays. There will be two fields, both sup'air.

The format will be 5-man limited paint. Marshals from NPF who have tournament experience will be reffing. We will be following rules similar to the PA but modified for 5man limited paint. So no 1-for-1's just penalty points and sostas if you're really naughty. :p

Entry as mentioned above will most likely be £100 per team.

Teams will be able to borrow site masks, and markers if necessary.

Paint will be supplied by the site at approx £30 a box (exact price to be confirmed asap). I am speaking to them about teams that have paint sponsorship contracts about using there own brands, but there may be limits on the fill colour and staining of certain brands. As far as i know this only affects Portsmouth (I'm guessing, i haven't checked if/who they are sponsored by), and teeside (Zap sponsored)

I'm hoping to get between 6 to 8 teams along but the more the merrier. Teams must represent a UK university, but don't necessarily have to have a recognised club there. Players should be registered on a course at the uni in order to represent it. IE no joint teams or guests from not at the uni. The reason for this is, although this is early days i aim to get a busa recognised event in years to come and being able to demonstrate prior compliance with the rules will aid this.

I hope this will be the start of an annual event. Previous events were not repeated in following years, but recently more sites have set up sup'air fields so it should be a lot easier and cheaper to hold an event meaning we should be able to keep things going. I've chatted briefly to Hatts from the PA about tying in with them in some way, but nothing has been discussed properly. But the idea of the (Insert sponsor here) Paintball Association University Cup, recognised by BUSA would be pretty cool. Its worth noting that it was Hatts and Gillie that got the last inter-uni's going, but there offer of help with more recent attempts were snubbed by a few people that did not speak for the majority.

Actually it would be cool if uni paintball was at a level were funding form the uni's allowed a decent number (20 or 30) clubs to train regularly and compete in a national university league as well as a annual cup. But hey that's something to build towards.
