You can re-program older cricket boards. Check to see if there is a white sticker on the little chip towards the back of the board, as in the end with the LED. It will have 6 holes next to it, too. If there isn't a sticker it should be possible to put ECS (enhanced cricket software) on it. These links will give you most of the information you need, but I could probably help you out if you choose to put it on.
I think SP can upgrade the older cricket boards with the newest official cricket software too. Don't know if they do it in house or send it away to be done, you'd have to phone them and find out.
