impulses are like any other marker out there, if you look after them they are great, if you dont it will bite you in the b*llox.
in their day there where the best marker out there for their money, now however they are abit boxy.
the backup of them is great as they where a popular marker.

investing in a regulator will improve consistancy, but i think the stock one will be ok for now. ivesting in an after market barrel kit is always a good idea and will improve consistanct and accuracy.

Yes buddy, they are good markers, with loads of aftermarket parts that you can upgrade with.

Since they have been about a while, theres lots of private label bodies, and NDz (www.Newdesignz.com) has come up with some top parts that really transform the impy. I have a strange impulse, mine does 290 - 295 on the Chronie, 20bps no problems, although it has cost me a fair bit to get it in a position where it can compete with newest of the markers out there.

If you just starting and don't have much cash to buy a supped up one, they're good to learn tournie ball on, but unless they are upgraded with parts such as a WAS board, ndz LPR, ndz RIP valve, ndz hammer assembly they can only do up to about 15bps.

Hope this helps you a bit, if you'd like some advice on choosing one then catch me on pm.

agree with all of it

I started out with a vision impy & to be honest it was extremely reliable but in the end I had a few problems with it & was glad to get rid of it. I got an 05 Speed & the difference was very noticeable in the weight & performance ie: faster, & doesnt chop/barrel burst half as much.

Impy advantages:
*upgradeable
*not too much maintenance eg just oiling bolt & replacing o-rings
*simple to use
*at the moment, cheap as chips: rock bottom prices now, so whatever you pay now, it can't depreciate any more, whereas mine dropped like a stone & I made a loss

Impy disadvantages:
*stock, you have to spend a lot of money on them to get them up to a good tourney standard & like Nickyboy said if you havent got a WAS/I-frame etc then you need to add these or else it will just not keep up
*heavy, & boxy, a bit ugly if not milled
*support & parts are from SP need I say more!

a better starter marker for about the same might be an ion, or another 2nd hand marker like an older Timmy, or an Angel.
Buying a 2nd hand, already upped marker will save you the time, effort & money on upping the impulse.

Go for one of those above if you can: the 05 Speed's FANTASTIC for the price now; but both are better than an impulse. The fly can be made as fast as a Speed.

dont forget if you need to buy a full tourney set-up you'll also need to budget at least
£90 for a 1.1 bottle,
£30-£40 for a decent hopper (Egg II! usually Y-board, Z-board is the next step up but costs about £45-£50 2nd hand)
a DECENT tourney mask eg: invisions, JT Flexes etc (around £30 2nd hand)
a pack (quality not so necessary here) from £15->£30

then start thinking about clothing eg good pair of trousers
get the marker & mask first, then buy the rest of the kit in bits.

no idea but most impulses are going for under £200 now, even the really upped ones

sounds like an Ok setup but make sure its for you, have a look at some other markers aswell.
have you shot an impulse? make sure it suits you (but the I-Frame is gorgeous if setup right)

Need a few q's answered before I can quote a price.

Where is this coming from dude, what country?
Is the Vert Max-Flo an old style or one of the new ones?
What internals are inside/how long have they been there?
What Bolt is included with the marker?
Does the Equalizer come with a Equalink?
Does this marker include a ASA/Rail?

If I was you I'd go for the A4 Fly or the Speed 05 for 275. It is a such a low price you can't go wrong.

For example, the imp above doesn't have a LPR but has a tapeworm. If you wanted the recharge rate that a LPR offers an IMP, you would have to replace the tapeworm anyway with a gas thru one. The WAS and the I-Frame are good though.
