impulse chopping

alright guys dnt want to sound green but just had a general wondering

i got a stock impy running on a high pressure angel preset and using a eggy hopper

now somtimes i break balls, i got a new derlin bolt and still chop, its not lots of chopping but sumtimes was just wondering if there is anythink that i need to get

bar vision for the meantime is there anythink that might help, i notice i dnt have a great paint barrel match will that break me balls i always though that would just decrease accuracy

p.s do i really need an eggy as im pretty sure i cnt outshoot it

alright mate.
its worth having a look at the bolt to check it doesnt have any sharp edges on it that could be cutting the balls as they load. also check that with it aired up the bolt completely clears the breech. if its an aftermarket delrin jobby it could be ever so slightly too long and is obstructing the flow of the ball as it falls in. unlikely but worth checking. also check that there arent any other sharp edges in the breech/feedneck area that may be cutting the balls lsightly or holding them back as the fall. check the detent is not jamming occasionally and ripping the ball open as it passes as this could easily show symptoms of a chop as paint is in the breech.

i know you said don't suggest it but the vision system is what makes an impy truly rip. problem with most hoppers is the feed comes in fits and starts as opposed to a continuous stream of balls and that could well be the problem. when i had an impy without vision it would chop like anything until i got the vision system.

check on the classified section as i'm sure you could pick up a vision board dirt cheap.

only other thing to suggest if you really dont want to go the vision route is to get an lpr kit. that'll decrease your cocking pressure so that the balls will get pinched rather than chopped.

as for the paint barrel match that wont cause chopping but barrel bursts. if the barrel is too big it wont cause many problems on impies as they'reo pen bolt. causes issues more with cockers as the detent doesn't hold the ball once its loaded.

is it chopping any time? or when the hopper is low to empty?? on occasions the balls bounce when they drop into the chamber and the bolt hits them half in and half out, if this is the case, you will just have to shoot slower when your running low, or refill sooner. this happend occasionally on mine in eyes off mode when the halo flicks the last few balls down the shoot!

also you may have blow back. to see if u do, put a few balls in the feedneck and fire, if they jump up then you do. not sure how to actually fix it (o rings on the bolt i think) you can drill a small hole in the back of the feedneck which is a common fixer for it

also, invest in some new designz gear. they have good low pressure products for impys which can lower the bolt pressure, like LPR's etc

Mine used to do that and i have vision im no pro but steve at smoovtec sorted mine and it has not been touched for 2yrs!!
Try this
if u have vert max flow screw bottom cap out this should reduceinput pressure
Then screw your cap in untill your gauge at top of max flow is reading between 150 / 175 psi
Put your markerover a chrono if its shooting 298 or above turn your dwell down if its reading say 250 take your dwell up to about 289 over chrono leave at that and u should average between 285 / 295 you should be safe over chronos incase u have fluctuation over chrono
If non of this makes sense i will pm u number for smoovtec he will help u
p.s if you dont think you can do it DONT!! air systems shouldnt be messed with they can injur or kill u Let a pro do it if u ask nicely he may show u for the future
