"Gift" = $36 or about £18 so a CD is about it.

Anything else is fair game to them...unless you know what the codes are for the item your importing (there are many)...then import duty starts at about 7% and goes up at their whim, then there is the VAT to go on that.

Also, VAT and duty is charged on the amount stated (normally correct because of insurance) PLUS the amount for shipping, which is also stated on the package.

So...what you after importing then...just for sh!ts and giggles, seeing as I doubt you will be now.:D

if you have to pay the duty added about 30% to the cost of the item which is about what the total duties will come to.....

this is just a idea, but if i where to buy a marker, from the US and have it shipped to Gran canaria (my dad lives there) then when he comes back to the UK have him bring it with him(every six week's) I'd escape the UK import tax's?

Yep.

As long as on the way out of baggage collection he doesn't get spot checked for no reason, he'll be fine.

P.s. Could i place an order? ;)

lol..Been talking to my sons girlfriend, whom happens to live in the states & asked if she could post ordered good from there to the UK from ordering direct from the manufactures, they do it all the time as they still have family in the UK, they change the package & mark it as a gift & as long it has the senders address on the back & not a suppliers Addy, they have had no problem...
