If you're just starting s team, the first thing you should do is figure out what level you want to play at - local events, regional series, major series, or all of the above. This will give you an idea of your costs (entry fees, hotels, travel, etc) and the commitment level (practice schedule, how many tourney per month you can do, custom jerseys, etc). Costs will usually depend on the level you play at. The bigger the tournament, the more it's going to cost.

If you're a new team, sponsorship will be tough unless you have connections in the industry. Most sponsors want to see some proven results before they start dishing out the goodies. You can start with your local field. Many fields will give home team sponsorship in return for working there one or two days per month. Generally, home team sponsorship means you get reduced prices on play fees, paint and sometimes equipment. You can also try local businesses outside paintball. If you do get sponsors, make sure you promote them with a banner and/or logos on your jerseys.

The individual players level of experience should be taken into account when you're deciding on tournaments. You should try to play tournaments everyone is comfortable with. That may mean you go to some local tournaments first to see how good you are before going to a major tournament. Starting with a major tournament and getting your butt kicked all day long may not be everyone's idea of fun :D

Whatever happens, remember it's a game and have fun ;)

UK events tend to cost around £25 -£30 per person + whatever paint you shoot. Air and Co2 is normally included in the price.
You'll usually be seeded at the lower end if your just starting out as most event organisers have a good knowledge of the abilities of established teams.
You don't have to play all the legs of the series 2003 as you can miss a leg or pick your best scores overall. A number of other events are one off like shoot the rainbow so you just have to worry about your performance over the weekend.
Sponsorship is becoming more and more difficult to get with the traditional sponsors reducing their team lists due to smaller companies coming in, undercutting them, and investing nothing back into the sport.

Just out of interest, whereabouts in the North West are you?

John, you,ve hit the nail on the head there mate, smaller companies undercutting every1 and putting jackS*$! back in,but on a better note, getting a team together can be hard but stick with it and any one coming into the team should be able to make a positive contribution(ideas on sponsorship, playing) etc....p.s first stop in s/ship as each player to speak to their respective firms they work for, dont ask you dont get....brian..." I,D JUST LIKE TO SAY A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OUR SPONSORS":D  P.S speak to the organisers of tourneys as some of them are paint suppliers and might cut u a deal......happy hunting....

"do u think it is worth a

It never hurts to ask ;) but you might have a better shot if you can show you've played a tourney or two as a team. Shows 'em you're serious.

Sounds like you need to enter a small tourney to start with. If you do well and everyone likes it, then seek sponsorship.

Don't worry about fancy jerseys, banners or any of that junk for your first tourney. All you need is the entry fee and enough cash for paint. Just play and make sure you like it.

Just out of curiousity, have you ever played a tournament/speedball style field - hyperball, inflatable, etc? If not, go to a field and practice with some other teams before you enter a tournament. It's a lot different than rec or woods ball :D :D
