Just out of interest, what is the difference between a HSE and a DOT air bottle. Also, why does everyone seem so interested when buying to check when the test date was, does it cost to check the bottle? Thanx for any help....

Haha, I asked this a little while ago... basically, they're standards for testing your bottles against - in the US the standard is DOT (Department of Transportation) and in the UK the standard is HSE (Health and Safety Executive).

For some reason, the two organisations don't quite see eye-to-eye, which means that bottles tested to the US DOT standards cannot be used in the UK if you are a UK resident...

Apparently HSE is a more stringent test, but DOT bottles are made to a higher specification...

I think I got that right... I just regurgitated it... :D

I thought DOT was Department of Trade? The DoT in the UK is Dept of Transport.

Just being pedantic . . .

The test date is to ensure that the bottle is safe. If the bottle is still in test, then it's certified safe to use. If the last test was 12 years ago, then it may be a good idea to have it re-tested before you fill it. ;)
