I would recommend any new player invest in a 1.1-litre (68 Cu In) 4,500 psi carbon fibre wrapped tank, such as those fron DXS, Dye, CP, etc.

Why, because at some point in the near distant future you will want to upgrade to one if you buy a lesser tank in the first place.

For ultimate piece of mind buy new from a reputable retailer (LiPS - 01707 325007 are always my first call) to ensure that you get a UK legal Pi marked and up to date system with out any faults.

Cost, around £130 - £160

Its just not worth taking chances with high pressure compressed air.

Glad to help, as before, its really not worth taking any chances with HPA and your air system is the one piece of kit you are likely to keep the longest, when you upgrade or change your SLG it will still work on your new gun.

P.S. if your SLG is stock I would seriously recommend changing the plastic feedneck for a metal clamping one (all the Proto/Dye ones are the same threads, but you only need to change the collar) and installing the UL trigger for the SLG to make it easier to shoot. Both should be available from LiPS or any Dye dealer.

The SLG08 doesn't even have a plastic clamping feedneck, if you want to replace the feedneck you'll have to get collar and the screw in part. And as far as I'm aware, you can't replace the trigger on the 08slg unless you get an aftermarket import from CP (Which I'm sure LiPS will get in for you, should you want it).

As for tanks, I'll mirror what's been said. I bought my slg with a steely, and I'm already looking to upgrade over the course of the year.

You're right on the feedneck, my error, it has the push fit one! I think it was the original PMR and the SLG 09/UL that have the plastic clamp. You wil need to change the whole thing.

A UL trigger was a available for the 08s, its similar and may be the same one as fitted to the SLG 09, I can't see it in the proto catalogue but it should still be available if you ask.

Our Cadets team won an SLG at the start of last year and got used a fair bit as one player was yet to get his own gun. I happened to have a complete DM6 feed neck kicking about and fitted that. I put a UL trigger in and also modded the plastic frame to take a magnet that acted on the front adjustment screw for trigger return and meant I could remove the spring, giving a much more fluid trigger action. I think that set-up was used for every round by the Cadets team to 2nd place in the Proto KotH last year. It has CP on/off and a new board in it and is still kept as a team spare, for the money (even if we had had to pay for it) it is a damn fine little gun.

I just changed the spring to a softer one (that I think I got from a ballpoint pen), and now the triggers lovely to use. I can certainly get it rolling on semi!

I was always under the impression that UL triggers couldn't be used on 08slg's. I've always been told they won't fit, since the stock slg trigger doesn't have the 'bend and foot' of all of the other PMR and UL triggers. I know that's badly phrased, but it's the best description I could come up with
Google image slg trigger and you'll see what I mean. The SLG just has a little stub to connect with the microswitch.

I'm not too fussed with my trigger now I switched the spring, like I said, I can easily get it rolling on semi. Not sure what speed I can get up to, but I can max out a cap of 12bps.
