Its no good asking us brits Joebob as I think its different over here. Just don't tell anybody what your patenting as you then forgo your rights to it.

Since no one else will take your question seriously, I will. The Gov't has a website for patent application. If you're interested take a look. It is a very long and drawn out process that is also very time consuming in that there are numerous procedural steps required before you even get to filing your own patent documents. The paperwork is fairly complex, most peeps use lawyers who specialize these days, though it isn't necessary. And so on.
