Only when it starts to not work.
The more you start taking it apart, the more you'll end up breaking ****.

Dont fix it unless its broke!

ooooh  how dare you imply that :p

but in all fairness, ions are pretty robust, you could effectively not clean it for months and it'd probably still run smoothly :D

what the others've said is right, tho I will put in that, I remember seeing another thread of yours asking what you should use to clean your ion with...

It's actually pretty hard to break markers unless you are constantly taking them apart, and generally, as long as you are not spraying corrosive liquid or anything into it (general sense applies as well, NO sticking it in the bath!!), then not much you will use will really damage it.

Get some confidence first; be gentle, & have some common sense, and you won't break it.

Grease it using common sense; has it stopped working? Have the internals started sticking? Then grease it. Generally after every 2 boxes seems a round figure for just maintenance tho some people lube it after each day of play. :)

and http://www.zdspb.com/tech/mguide/ion/maintenance_bolt.html ;) tho as mike says it's more likely to break, the more you take it apart; there's no real need to completely disassemble it...
