Ok I suppose your immediate initial reply would be "every day please" but lets stay in the real world for a while and try and work out what the market should be providing to its customers.
I am not suggesting imposing a tournament limit in the UK at all that would be ridiculous but how many events per series do you think is fair to the players/teams.
For instance this years PA only consisted of three events (it would normally be six) but only because I needed the opportunity for the teams and myself to try the new format and then be allowed to re-jig some aspects if required before the new season, that was done primary for my benefit but it did also allow teams to try Xball.
I believe teams are asked/cajoled into playing extra events that may be detrimental to the longevity of the team.
Of course as some will rightly point out nobody gets there arms twisted to attend - well not in the physical sense, but have you ever played an event because of pressure from your team mates.
I think no team should be asked to commit or be expected to play more than half a dozen series events per season, if the teams wants to play every week they can do that if they wish but if a player can not afford to play or needs to spend some family time they can also do that without spoiling the league for the team.
I have seen over the last few years players who have come on the scene got the kit they need and before you know it they are retiring and selling up because they have to move on because they can not afford it, during that time they may have played twenty or so tournaments and then realised their overdraft is not there to finance a hobby.
They have not left paintball because they don't like it, only because they can no longer justify the expenditure required to continue with what they feel they have to commit to.
Would it not be better for paintball to reduce the number of events they feel tied too and extend their paintball life considerably, good for them, great for paintball.
Another plus point is teams would also be able to acquire time and money that they could use for constructive training.
Thoughts ?
