If I wanted to depressurise my air tank, so that i could safely store it at home with my parent's permission, could i:

Half screw the bottle into the gun so that the bottle nipple is being depressed, and gas leaks from the bottle?

a) Does this empty the bottle?
b) Is it damaging to the gun or the tank?

That is more likely to screw up your tank oring.

Different ways are to take off the tank oring and screw the bottle in or I'd just pop the macro line out of the reg and then scrw the tank in. that makes an unholy noise but works. I wouldn't take the hose out of the ASA side as then you might freeze/damage the elbow oring that's now exposed.

you can do this but your putting a lot of strain on just a few threads and if you were to keep reapeating the exercise you could weaken the threads and then your bottle could blow off.

If your parents are worried about having a pressurised bottle in the house, point out that it's more dangerous to forcefully depressurise it.......

If they are worried about having a live gun in the house then make them this offer.....you'll find a secure case that will be suitable to store your gun/bottle, then lock it and give your parents the key, that way they are the only ones that can access it and there would be no possibilities of an accident and you won't have to vent the bottle;)

Pop your hose out and screw the tank into your ASA. I've drained quite a fair amount of tanks that way, and I still haven't blown myself up, or had my tank go screaming down field the next time I gassed up. If you had an ASA with an on/off knob that would be ideal (that's what I normally use), you can just pop your hose off and turn the knob, so you have some control over how much air is released (easier on the old ears).
