Welcome! :)

As far as getting kit goes I'd wait until you've played paintball first. For all you know you might hate the sport and never go again (Hopefully not), but you never know. :/
If you really are set on getting some kit however i'd recommend purchasing a good set of Goggles first. Go down to your local paintball store or ask someone at your field to try on some Goggles to see which ones suit you best.

As regards to a marker, I'm sure there would be people down at NvS that would be happy to let you try their markers out. :) However the Etek 4 is a pretty solid marker, plus you have the great tech support from Planet Eclipse behind you!

To echo what is said already don't buy a marker (that's a paintball gun) or playing kit until you have been, there is two very different styles of paintball, you have Tournament & Scenario.
Both use very different kit & markers.

The only thing that would be worth buying would be a good mask with a thermal lens, fogging sucks the big one ;-)

Idealy keep your money in your pocket until you get to NvS
Either go as a rental or set your budget for goggles, marker etc and buy when you get there.

The real advantage of NvS to you as a new starter is the abundance of traders.
You will get the chance to try on every make/model of googles and pick up every marker.

As mentioned above the two main sides of paintball are tournament and woodsball.
You can play in the woods at local walkons, but there is also scenario which sets a basic theme and plays alongside that, it is also played in many more places then the woods.

Regarding choices of markers you will find yourself outgunned with so called 'woodsball; markers in tournament play, but can use any type of marker in the woods, buildings etc
You won't go far wrong with an Etek

I agree with the others, play first :) But afterwards whats your budget? Are you looking for a brand new marker? Second hand makes your money go much further.
