Hey,
Its great to hear that you are now so keen. One piece of advice I would give is when you first get bitten by the bug you wanna run out and buy your own gear and just play all the time.
In about 6 months you will want to upgrade and get better stuff cause you are just getting into it.

My advice is wait a few months. Save for a few months, christmas is coming and all.

Get a better level of marker to start then you can upgrade bits to the marker but you have a higher entry level piece of kit, and another good idea is buy 2nd hand, get a cocker or impulse second hand and it can be a older model and you can upgrade that but still be out there playing in rec/tourney whatever.

Good luck and welcome aboard

I got a spyder E-99 and i have no complaints. its a very very good beginner gun. easy to maintain, easy to use, easy to clean. Its a good gun to help you get accustomed to the basics of gun upkeep (least i think so), and its a good gun for rec ball play. Since i havent been to a tournament (playing in my first one next month) i dont know how it stacks up to tournament play, but i cant see why it wouldnt be all that good. unless you come across the i like to spray and the E-99 only gets up to 13 bps.

Only mod i would make on the E-99 is to get a new barrel. Boomstick or the All American 2002 would be my first choice. I got the AA and it works pretty good. nice and quiet, doesnt use up too much more Co2 than the stock and much more accurate.

Course the drawback, as Tom tom pointed out, is that you will want a better gun some day. and theres not much mods you can do to the E-99 to put it up to the level of say the autocockers, angels and what not.

the 98 will be more sturdy, and the cocker will be more arrurate (closed breach firing).
As to which one is better... the cocker is more widley accepted as a tourney marker, but the tippmann is more accpeted as a rec-ball marker.
Which ever one you enjoyed using the most. and the one you found worked best for you is the one to go for.
Neddy swears by, and loves his tippmann, i dont think he will ever be a cocker boy. However, im the opposite. and it is entirely down to personal taste.

hope that helps
