For starters, it's probably not wise to aim for an event like the Campaign Cup before you've played a bit of tourney ball & have a team that's played together a bit. You should firstly aim to get your guys together, then play a few small local tourneys. After a few months you'll find that some of your team don't have the committment, can't afford it or just don't particularly enjoy tourney ball. Eventually you'll get a group that play well together & look like they might stick together for more than a couple of weeks, THEN you can look at the major events.
If you aim for an international for your first tournament you'll get your arses handed to you on a plate big time, which could well put most of your team off & won't be very enjoyable.
By all means make something like Campaign a long term goal, but to put together a bunch of newbies specifically to play that particular event seems a little, well, unwise? Oh, and VERY expensive for a first time out with no team sponsorship or assistance! E.g. typical paint consumption of a fair standard novice team is around 20 cases.

here, here

one of the most important things that you must remember, is that at the end of the day, its only a game. Its designed to be fun!

For the first couple of months you WILL get your arse kicked, but dont worry, we have all been through it. Ballers genrally know when they are playing a new team and 9 times out of 10, wont play you as hard. At the end of the game, they will give you as many pointers and advice as you can probably imagine.

But remember, the most important thing is to not get too upset, enjoy it, and before long, you will start working and thinking as a team and by god, come campaign 2004, you will probably be kicking my arse!!!
