I recently brought a halo hopper which has a rip drive but a normal backplate (as opposed to the V35 one) does this mean my halo does not have the V35 board and is not as up to date as the others?

including v35

depends what you ordered and paid for.

all it means is no v35 = 22 bps v35 = 35bps. both will need the right batteries to obtain these goals tho
Standard Halo is fine, feed rates more than keep up with markers running at 12-15bps.
Nice and gentle on paint and not battery hungry like some other loaders.
The ONLY upgrade on the V35 is the adjustable speed, which is not really required.
