My fellow Balling amigos,

I need your help with this one.
The story is,
I wish to try and start a team for the RAF, looking future wise to maybe create a Tri-service team or teams who would be able to compete at international level and represent the armed forces in a competetive light. However, To get funding of any sort from the RAF and leave granted to participate in a certain sport, the sport its self has to be recognised by the "RAF Sports board."

Sadly as you can probably guess, the king of all sports is currently not recognised, hense i cannot get any type of funding or support from the RAF.

Recently though, the RAF its self has started to use woodsball to train Troops in a hostile environment, not to go into too much detail for obvious reasons, but they use the woodball to re-create situations like Afghan and beyond.
I would have thought that this would only assist my case in trying to get recognition for the sport.

The really annoying thing, is things like Game Fishing, and MotorCross have full recognition!!

The help and assistance I require is trying to put together a portfolio of Tournament Paintball that i can present to the board to try and convince them to recognise Paintball and raise some funding and support in creating teams, both individually for the RAF, and also for Tri-service.

I have made an attempt at creating one, but it is REALLY basic! Im asking for input, ideas, info, anything that i could use in creating a work of art that the sports board would be blown away by and have to give it some serious thought!

I know some of the Uni guys have presented stuff to their Unions, if i could use their ideas or anything like that, it would be amazing. Im not the greatest when it comes to presentation as college wasn't really my thing ;)

Well thats my plan, any help or advise you could give me towards putting this to the RAF would be invaluable.

I hope there are the peeps out there who can point me in the right direction with help or info of any sort.

Cheers all, i leave it with you

Hey richie,
In terms of being recognised by our university union, we need to present 12 active university paintball teams who are willing to take part in a specifically organised league and tournament, in order to make a BUCS league (British university colleges sports). Only when we have a BUCS league status will we be recognised as a 'sport' as opposed to a 'society' in the eyes of universities around the UK. Unfortunately there arn't this many, and there are other issues with presenting an inter-uni league such as locations and fixtures.

It's just a piss take like you said, how activities such as golf and darts are considered a sport, whilst ours isn't :(

How this reflects with the RAF and being recognised by them i'm not sure... You say you use paintball for scenario-based combat training? Couldn't you try organising more of that with other RAF and turning it into more of an inter-RAF competitive league than another 'combat training session'. I'm sure other guys on your post would be interested in having a bit of fun with this. Once you've got a bit of an inter-RAF league with paintball, surely they'd recognise it as an official sport worthy of leave, allowing you to compete internationally?

In terms of your portfolio however, i pitched the case to my university of my teams previous achievements, and also compared the physical aspects of paintball compared to other sports. (IE the teamwork, communication and co-ordination aspects you work on as a team, as well as personal skills required to win. Then comparing these aspects to sports such as football and rugby)

If you're looking for ideas as to determining paintball as a sport, hit up Soul Doubt on these forums. He's currently doing his dissertation on this argument, he may have some good ideas for you...

Best of luck in your campaign bud :D

I cam tell you now the army sports council currently won't support it. I have tried on a few occasions but they are too old to take on board what is happening.
