Hey, all at P8nt Forum!

I'm really looking forward to getting involved in paintball, it's something that I have always had a lot of fun doing when ever I have had the chance to play. I considered joining the paintball society whilst I was attending university but was always put off by the high cost of entry (especially being a skint student).

I've since graduated and got myself an ok job so now I really want to get involved in taking up this fun hobby!

I would really appreciate all the help and assistance you guys are willing to offer. I'm looking to ideally compete and really get involved in the sport. What's the best way to play regularly in the UK, I've had a look at walk-ons in the Bristol area but they don't seem regular enough.

I'm also working with a budget of around 300-400 to start with, slowly upgrading as I go so any advice is really helpful!

See you on the field!

That's plenty to get you going, don't be sucked into the hype of having the latest greatest thing, it won't make you a better player. A great player with a cheap gun will always beat a crap player with a really expensive gun :)

Start with attending your local events and meeting guys from the forum if there are any near you. Be prepared to travel!!

Browse the classifieds here or put up a wanted ad. You can have a very competitive marker for £200 or less, if you really look you can pick up a Mini Gs or something for around £100-150.

A tourney gun will also allow you to play woodsball, the reverse is not always true. A bottle is a bottle, some are slighty lighter than others but it's not a deal breaker. Loaders feed paint, as long as they keep up with the 10bps max rate you're allowed then job done. you can wear anything but put money into a mask, it's keeping your eyes in your head and will be on you a lot so it needs to be comfy for your head shape.

Hope this helps!

Hey Dusty, thanks for the reply, appreciated!

What would you say is the best way to play regularly? I'm finding it difficult to find events other than walk-ons at the end of the month which allow you to get full days play with your own equipment. When searching on google all the results seem to be for 'Rentals'. I'm definitely accepting the travel aspect, I'm in the Bristol area so I have the NPC in Birmingham around about 2 hours away and there is also the Skirmish in Cribbs and Portishead which offers a monthly scenario game.

Failing to find any information on local events for Competitive tourney paintball though, it seems to be all woodsball.

Appreciate the advice mate - I'll have a look at the classified section, I've definitely seen some bargains on there for sure! I had my eye on an EVO but didn't have enough posts to reply to the owner. As for mask i've made an investment into the Dye i5 - i really liked the shape of the i4 but was worried it might be a little too small for my fat head!

Competitive tournie paintball is limited to just a few events in this country. And all those venues are miles from Bristol.

You have the CPPS run by @Ainsley (arena ball)

Formula 5's run by @John Sosta (arena ball)

Then there is competitive 7man woodland masters events run by @Twizz ECI and @Dave S ECI (woodland paintball)

There are more events, but the ones I listed are the main UK events though that run as a series, that I know of anyway.

CPPS is the biggest National arena ball site. They have training days, and all the best teams attend the monthly tournie. They have divisions that go from Pro or "Elite" to novice novices called the "Break in" Division. Its not uncommon for a few European teams to come over for it. Plus Ainsley is a stand up guy.

I can see that you have to be a member of a team to compete in these tourneys. How would someone even begin to try and get onto a team if you're starting out alone? is it a case of turning up to walk-on training days, or is it a pretty difficult scene to get into ?

not at all. I would either contact the organisers listed and ask if they can put you in touch with a suitable team, or you can create a thread in the sub forum on here, or on their respective Facebook pages and ask if any teams are taking on players. Just shout if you get stuck.
