I just stripped one of the threads on my angel and I have been told that the only repair is to drill out the hole and helicoil it. What I want to know is how strong will this be? I have read that the helicoil is usually stainless steel and therefore it’s stronger than the original thread. Can anyone give me a clue on this?

Yeah man, helicoils work fine (if installed correctly!) , wouldn't say they were stronger but definately as strong.

Sorry forgot to add, for gods sake dont use a hand drill to drill out the hole !, it needs to be perfectly straight so you need to use a pedestal drill.

Helicoils are stronger than the original Aluminum threads. That is why in the Aircraft industry they are used on high stress threaded areas or where screws will be installed and removed frequently. Where are you located and have you purchased a kit? I work in a Machine Shop and would be willing to do it for free if you provide the kit and helicoil. Oh and you pay postage both ways. :p If you have any questions let me know by e-mail.

Thanks for the response guys. The thread I stripped is one that holds the minireg to the body (it’s an original Angel) Thanks for the offer rooster but it’s on it’s way to WDP right now I just wanted some peace of mind. I still don’t know how much it’s going to cost though :D
