Heaven's Gate II was everything it promised to be. Having had time to chill out and reflect on the event, I'm very happy to say that it delivered an excellent weekend's 'balling to everyone who attended.
I've read through all of the threads on these forums and overall there is a opinion of a very enjoyable tournament that definately deserves consideration on every team's 'balling calendar. A few points have been raised about the opportunities for Sandbagging and some infrastructure improvements and these comments are welcome and noted.
Comments on poor reffing are, in my opinion, just gripes on the few bad decisions that were made. On the Monday before the event, I had around 11 refs booked in after exhausting a million possibilities. In the end, a few good hearted people jumped in to help out and worked their butts off. Overall (mainly thanks to Tiny, a couple of friends and the Tigers) the judging standard was way above average. A couple of the stand-ins dropped the standard a little, but at least they got out there and did the job. All I can say to those of you with gripes is I look forward to you volunteering to take on the reffing job next year to bring the standard even higher.
Loads of people helped make this event the success that it was and I'm sure I'll miss some of them, but here goes... Bournemouth Sports Club, H-Pac, all of the judges, Residue Dogs for working their assess off during the set-up and clear-up and providing me with plenty of entertainment throughout the week we spent together, Powerball (particularly Janis and Sally who handled the admin professionally all weekend with smiles on their faces), Phoenix, Celtic Paintballs, Halloween Paintball Gear, Hardballer 68, Raven (AKA Paul Lock), Pro Paintball, everyone who helped finish those little things off early Friday afternoon, everyone for their kind feedback about the event and reminding me to smile whilst my mind was busy working away on other things.
Finally, thanks a lot for the huge cheers and applause at the presentation - that means more than you could know!
Keeping the good vibe going, the venue were over the moon about how the event ran this year and have already confirmed that we can have it again next year! So, book July 23rd-24th 2005 in to your diary - HGIII!
