HB Coverage

This actually applies to all big tourneys but as HB is the current one--
Have read most of the PB community's coverage online and I have only one word to describe it--boring! Everyone might as well accept pre-screened or written materials direct from Pure Promotions cus most of the "news" reads like a press release or else it's a rehash of team names and scores. Pardon me while I take a nap.

What about the new turf? What about Robbie the Robot chrono? What about some reporting on the massive Pro bracket--who were some of the "new" teams? How 'bout some behind the scenes action? How 'bout some spice, some opinions? "It was swell. What a great day for PB." Judas H. Priest, what crap. Anyone got an opinion about an event "locked" at 135 teams where 160+ show up? What about some controversy? It's always there whether its reported or not. I could on but. . . ;)

Is it just me or is most event coverage so generic you could simply change the scores and team names with hardly anybody knowing the difference?

Bulllshizzle my pizzles!

Y'all must beforgetting tha cathedral of smack, where I stumbled upon tha following 3 choice items:

Dynasty was never gonna win at HB cos WDP got tha refs to put a hurtin' on them becase they dropped Angels.

Arsenal is a no game team that will never no way make Sunday ever.

Euros suck a fat dick and will never again make tha final 4...

Oh well, 1 outta 3 ain't bad...

They should at least set up some sort of Internet cafe area at big events so people can come on here and give a personal account of what they have seen.

The scoresheet was way behind, with people knowing about scores sooner by telephone calls etc - bit of a farce

The PBN webcam was also a joke - why didn't they point it at the friggin scoreboard!!!

To sumarise I completely agree with Baco Loco's sentiments. I aren't necassarily interested in behind the scenes 'dirt' but a decent write up of the event would be very refreshing...

I guess a lot of people would say 'Wait for PGI/Facefull/Paint/whatever for the full details'. But in this crazy information age i dont want to have to wait weeks to find out the details about such a huge event as HB.

Hopefully the NPPL will pay attention to what us sages are saying and sort out the webcam and the scoreboard issues for the next event. Although i do have a rather effective solution:

Fly me over to the next event, give me somwhere to stay, a laptop with wireless net acess, a digital camera and i'll be a roving reporter for their website. Reporting on all the scores, upsets and juicy gossip that us 'ballers love.

Go on....please.....please?

Word, word!

Baka-san is right again, event reporting is so last millennium that it is two millennia old. Carrier pigeons did a better job of reporting on battlefield news and they didn't have digital cameras, webcams and high-speed wireless Internet access.

I think if we were to take TheBroz concept and dig into it we would find that the cost to undertake such an operation would hypothetically only add a fraction to the entry fees. But then it would possibly more than pay for itself in ad revenues 'cause a ton of PB people would be tuned in to whatever website carried it.

Even if we wait for the mags, the coverage will be generic and thin. Maybe they should start paying the writers by the word. I wanna know who was a killer and what their best moves were in what situations. I wanna know who was helped or hampered by new gear. I wanna know if Dynasty was helped by their new marker or won in spite of it. I wanna know who was bouncing and who was actually mowing. I wanna hear from some of the people involved in the most intense games what was going on in their noggin while it was game on. I wanna know what was said about the new playing surface. I wanna know if that robot yanked anyones marker. I wanna know a million things about this tournament other than Team A faced Team B and Team A won. Since I couldn't afford to fly out and watch it, I guess I'll never know.

Just for Bluelite...

Sneaky peek at upcoming PGI report on PSP LA...

Earlier in the event a Miami Effect player shot his mirror, ran down the snake, dived under the incoming paint from the back center and while superman sliding shot the Detroit player in the snake who was posted cross-field. But that wasn't the end of it. Hitting the end of the snake he flipped a rope of paint at the back center and immediately swung into Detroit's stand-up pyramid, shot cross field to eliminate a wire dorito position and then roped the center back player to close out the point. In less than seven seconds one player working off one elimination closed out a point.

And there's more where that came from: PGI - we get from A to B, but we go via Z...

Maestro--somebody's been sharing, I see.

Anyway, Bluelite, exactamundo, my friend. Problem is it takes both work and space and from my vantage point it seems it's a tough call to figure out just what most of the readers really want. In my perfect pball world I'd like to see say, half an issue, dedicated to a significant event like HB so there would be room for everything--behind the scenes Robbie the robot stuff, players views, follow a team around for the event, interview the top dogs and report (highlight) the action.
Maybe if enough peeps want it--some forward thinking mag--might try it to see what the result would be. Just an idea. :D

Baca, are you volunteering yourself? You've got the lingo skills; go for it! Maybe team up with TJ and do some translatin' too. I think you're dead-on with this idea too. Whatta souvenir such a mag would be, especially for those who were there or should have been there, like me!
