Right guys, got a bit of an idea about customising an old field inferno (something to do) but i wondering about the internals.

For speed, would i be better with a lighter hammer and a stronger spring (less reciprocating mass) or a heavier hammer and lighter spring (less force required to recock)?

If possible i'd like something to back up any advice guys, so try and convince me that what you're saying is right

ah, i though u'd be the man to answer this!

I did think od that, but with other bolt over hammer guns that i've played about with i've found that a light spring means you can't get the velocity up to a respectable fps. I'll try it, but if anyone can give me any pointers they'd be appreciated.

This may sound obvious, but i'd be suprised if you can improve the inferno's rate of fire to any significant amount.

rather you than me buddy but i like your style, sleeper markers are the way foreward......ie...they look rubbish but rip like a tourney gat.:p

Now my experiences have led me to conclude that using the stock hammer is fine but drop the spring weights down as much as possible, then lower the air pressure accordingly to get less kick on the gun whilst still maintaining velocities. This is all due to the co-relation of the friction versus inertia theorum having an inverse and opposite reaction to the spring mass compression and rebound rates. dropping the hammer weight will only reduce the inertia ratio approximately 1.874% per milligram whilst having an increase of 0.27Kilopascals air pressure. As you can quite clearly see the reduction factor of the rebound rates is dirrectly proportionate to the input pressure multiplied by the compression rate, minus the final velocity desired.
I hope that's all clear to you now

yeah, i guessed low pressure was the way forward, but thats given me something to think about. (it actually sent me cross eyed, when they uncross i'll dig out my old physics books...)

its the first time i've tried something like this. I chose the inferno because its cheap, i know them inside out and i can get plenty of spare parts if i fudge anything up. And a few of us are talking about doing a KoTH with only mech markers, so i'd love to be shooting players out with the gun most of them turned their noses up at after a few times playing :D
