Anybody know if the Halo has a voltage regulator in it like the revvys or not? I haven't picked mine up yet so I can't open it up to take a look.

I need to know if I built a pack of NiMH cells, would 9.6v blow the motor? :D

As far as I can tell from a quick glance at a Halo board, there is a voltage regulator but only for the circuitry - the motor appears to be driven directly off the incoming battery connector. I'm pretty sure the motor is PWM-driven and used back EMF to measure motor load, but how well that compensates for varying supply voltage I'm not sure. Bear in mind that the motor itself is only intended for 3V operation, so it must use a fairly short duty-cycle, in which case I doubt the extra volt or so would make a big difference.

Hmm, ok, so at least I know the circuitry will be protected. And we all know how cheap the motors are anyway... should be fun.

Unless I get to speak to a certain someone soon I might end up with two halos anyway, so one can be my "practice" one... heh :D
