as the title says, if i whack a halo on an iR3 will it cause any problems?

Hit and miss I'm afraid. Some IR3s have no problems, others when coupled with a halo just produce soup.
Some don't like any Halos. Others like certain ones, some don't like any no matter what
Safe bet is an egg.
Some people tried harder detents. Others tried lubing the belt (which kind of defeats the purpose of a fast loader if you ask me )

Actually Ir3s are just the same as any other gat when setting up for a halo.
Roll back and bad detents are bad, once sorted your laughing...
Oh and you have to remove the cops rod and turn cops off. You wont have any problems outshooting a halo anyway...

Like Parsky said, quite hit and miss with the IR3's. My old IR3 + HALO was trouble, but you can fix it by using a tougher ball detent (adding one also helps), adjusting your ram and using the new soft touch bolt from WDP. And you should be able to keep your COPS as well. I've found that the theory of balls being punctured by the rod is complete idiocy fabricated by the brats at PBnation and AOG as yet another excuse to blame the WDP anti chop system for everything wrong in paintball. Even if it were true (which I've tested with my old IR3 and my new A4 and found it not to be), you could alleviate it by rounding the top of the rod a bit with some sandpaper. Give all those things a try and see if you're IR3 doesn't make erotic love to your HALO.
I dont agree with it being hit and miss. It took a while to get our first Ir3s to work with halos, but once you know how to do it you can do it to any Ir3,

thought ir3's came with 2 detents anyway?
So removing the cops rod and setting cops to off will get rid of the problem, ill try that when i get it is the board cap 20 with cops off?

No Ir3s have one detent.
The detent on your Ir3 will almost certainly be far too weak for the job.
The best detents are really old ones, or certain aftermarker ones (I can highly reccomend the AGD ULE ones)
Yeah the ram will probably need adjusting too, LPR must be right aswell (at least 95 PSI at 500PSI input) and a softnose bolt is also a must.
