the spring has the 2 tabs on it. put it in the circular plastic cup, the right hand spring tab to the left of the tab in this plastic piece.
now pick up the drive cone, the tab on the underneath of that should be placed clockwise of the left hand spring tab.
now turn the cone clockwise until the tab on the cone, meets the tab on the lower plastic cup (the left spring tab should be moving with it too). lift the drive cone up until you can squeeze it over the plastic cup tab. screw the drive cone down, now the spring should be tensioned if you turn it clockwise.
(i know, not all the technical terms but you should be able to follow that)
the plastic cup is the lower of the 3 pieces, connects to the gears
the drive cone is what chucks the balls around
