Gloves & Cleats

Any recommendations of what I should go for?

Price isn't a huge issue.

I was looking at getting a pair of Angel gloves, are they worth the price? and anyone got any idea if there's a sizing chart or anything before I buy them?

edit: not sure if this is the right section to put this in, but couldn't decide.. sorry if it's the wrong place

its all a matter of personal taste and comfort to be honest.

ive been playing for at least 13 years now and have tried pritty much every glove there is or has been and to be honest there isnt much in it.....you want to get something that you feel comfy playing in over everything else, then look for a glove that isnt going to fall apart too fast....ive known some gloves be hammered in a days playing. me personally ive found nothing better than knucklebone 'hitman' bmx gloves! ive had the same pair for at least 2 years without totaling them.

footware again is a very personal issue, ive played in everything from doc martins to trainers. it depends on the surface you are playing on too.
indoors i prefer trainers, skater types with decent grip, in mud and crap weather i go for a pair of digger 'extreme' cleats which i picked up at planet a few years back, good anckle support, leather, practically indestructable and above all damn good grip and water proof. for sup air i play in a pair of vans paintball shoes. ive always been a big fan of vans skaters and have worn those for 18 years at least (not the same pair tho) the paintball version are just as comfy, are water proof (as long as you dont jump in rivers) and grip very well on grass and astro.

i know a couple of people who will play in nothing but football boots and others who swear by dye cleats. its all down to the wearer.

Had a feeling that's what someone was going to say :)

Damn, have to make my own mind up then, haha..

I definitely need something as footwear as my trainers have no grip at all when it's even slightly wet or muddy so I definitely need something so that I don't fall over and make a tit of myself.

Problem with being in Norfolk is that mail order is my only choice so it's not like I can go and try any gloves/cleats on before buying them, doh.

On the footwear side, I have a pair of Nike trainers (similar to a running shoe) and a pair of Legend cleats. Both have their uses, cletas for sup-air, trainers for woods-ball.

For £39 I don't think you can go far wrong with the Legend cleats, comfortable as heck and look the biz ;) You can get em (and much more actually!) Here

On the gloves side, I've tried a few different pairs and can't really decide. Just get what you find comfortable! I'd advise going to a walk-on or a store and asking to try different pairs (borrow off other players). I generally won't spend a lot on gloves cos... they're gloves! You can hardly see them and the just keep your hand from getting shot, no reason to spend £30 on a pair :D

i wouldnt advise buying footware without trying em on to be honest as you only stand to hurt your feet if they dont suit.....give a pair of cheap footy boots a try, shouldnt cost you the earth.

and as he says gloves is gloves.....go with what ever you can get hold of cheap for now and ask other people if you can try theirs on maybe?

are you playing rec or tournies?
eatherway ask site owners/ players if you can try their gloves/guns/etc and ask their advise, most ballers are happy to help.

I'm just playing rec for now, would like to get into tourney, but due to location it's impossible at the minute.. Once my girlfriend is working and we can afford a car then we can travel to train/play but for now we're stuck in Norfolk.

Playing at the walk on this sunday, so I'll have an ask around then. Ideally want to end up buying something that's gonna last so if we do start getting into tourney ball then we wont have to fork out on new kit just to continue playing.

And I have to say it was a welcome surprise at how friendly and ready to help people are in the scene. It's one of those things that can seem quite cliquey (spelling?) from the outside. It was a nice surprise to proved completely wrong :)

95% of the time your gonna play on grass - so play in footie or rugby boots - if your really really after a paint of specific paintball footwear i would by far go with Tanels - there comfy, hard wearing and the circular gripping is ideal for twisting your feet about without to fooking your ankles.

hampshire uk
softball or baseball cleats - nothing has ever beaten them for grip, go for a mid ankle and a full toe- that way they'll last for years of serious abuse and double Knee slides into the snake :D

seriously tho, they clear the uk mud really well and really grip in everything, being moulded there allowed on astro as well

just look for an importer to the uk or a mate who's off to the states
