It's about time the forum's and the press gave a little bit more credit to the novice and am categories of our sport. all we read is the pro this and the pro that and then maybe a sentence if that about the rest of the results from last weekend's campaign cup. you only have to look at the home page to see what i mean and it will be the same in the next issue of pgi. The sport and teams all come from a novice level and grow into top players so lets not forget the roots of our sport and big them up as well a little more than just reading dynasty this and legion that....

It's not about credit... it's about marketability of the material. You will find plenty of posts on the forums about the other divisions (in fact I think Novice more than AM A or B), but that's not what sells magazines.

No disrespect, but which of this year's PGI-buying public is going to say "I wanna be like team Zone!"? For them, it's all gonna be Dynasty, Russian Legion, Strange and Nexus (simply going on results from Campaign). This is what sells the magazines, pays the people to produce these magazines and also pays for this forum...

The good thing about this is that it gives everyone something to aim for. If we all aim just to win the Am B tournament for example, you'd have to play pro teams in the lower divisions. The current few whines about sandbagging would get louder than Concorde at takeoff!

Congrats to all teams that did well in the lower divisions (in fact all divisions;)), but don't stop there. Put it on your team CV and use it to aim higher next time. The more you win, the better you'll be at winning!

I am not saying that people want to be like us i'm saying that the majority of the people that buy the magazines are the general novice players and rec ballers and they would like to see a little more than a sentence about there acheivments. Of course everbody wants to achieve a higher standard in their chosen sport that goes without saying. i've just read a thread about the terrible marshalling on the angel field, which i was subjected to as well and then when you read that the organisers knew the marshalling was bad on that field and thats why they did not play any Am A or pro games on the field what does that say about our sport??

That's not true... football wouldn't be what it is today without all the leagues everywhere. They are absolutely important too, but that's not what gets the media coverage.

I'm just trying to point out the difference between what's good for the sport and what's good for the media.

Actually, that's given me an idea... Why don't you big up your team in the local newspaper(s)? That's exactly the market that they are after! You'll basically need to put out a press release (write their story for them) and get it onto the sports writers desk at your local paper. It takes effort, but as they get more and more from you, they're likely to start putting it in the paper.

Hmmm tried that a few years ago....the sports editor turned around and said, yes we get pastimes like paintball and chess constantly writing to me, thanks for your time....

CHESS?!?! Friggin CHESS!!!

No offence to any pro chess players - but its hardly the same league (although recognised as a sport so im led to believe  )
