hello, ive had a tippmann a5 for about a month now and have taken it out a couple of times in my gaden to try it out. ive been using 88g co2 bottles on an adaptor, i know there not the best thing to use but for now they they give me a good feel for the gun. anyway, the first bottle i used there was a major leak, gas was coming out everywhere. within a minute it had gone, what a waste. so i took it apart, replaced all the o-rings, oiled them up using gun oil, put it back together and put the second cylindor in. this time it held the gas. it only hissed slightly when the gun wasnt cocked. this was about 2 weeks ago, and yesterday i put another bottle in and mucked about with my mate in my dads back field. again it was still hissing, but i could only hear it while it wasnt cocked. so ive taken it apart this morning and checked anything over. im currently using a red power tube btw. when i put the tombstone in the powertube & value and blow through the bottom line, the air is leaking from around the tombstone o-ring. so my question are:

1. should it be doing this? and if not, whats knacked on the marker?
2. is gun oil okay, or should i be using grease instead?
3. is there anything else i should be checking?

thanx tom

OK, first thing to check is that there's an o-ring on the face of the tombstone and that it's in good nick. The blow test is ok but you'll find a lot of times it'll need the pressure from actual gas or air to make a decent seal. The hissing when uncocked is probably the hammer pressing on the valve and unseating it a little, as long as it holds pressure cocked then I shouldn't worry too much. Gun oil is fine for a Tippy as long as it isn't attacking the o-rings, so if in doubt get some paintball specific gun oil or air tool oil and use that. A lot of little leaks can be fixed by putting a couple of drops of oil in the ASA, adding a cylinder and shooting a few shots with the barrel off (oil in barrel bad) to spread it through the gun and seal everything.

thanks for the reply. yeah ive replaced the tombstone o-ring the first time, but ill replace it again and see how it goes. the oil is express gun oil by parker-hale, i think my dad uses it on his air rifles so i assumed it was fine.

next time i have another cylinder ill pop a few drops in the asa and fire the marker. another question though, why is oil in the barrel bad? i was reading somewhere that some people put oil in the barrel to reduce ball friction or is that a special/different type of oil?

thanx tom

I'm not sure on A5's but some guns are extremely picky about which lube/oil to use.
