Ok I lied but now i have your attention thought we would give you the low down on the upcoming student event.
On Easter weekend this year BOP will be hosting the first of what we hope will be an annual event.......the Student Uni Cup. The Student Uni Cup is the culmination of nearly two years of work, building up a network of student groups around the UK, getting them all together on a weekend where we can not only have a great event but also a great social network tool.......and braggings rights can be earnt on and off the field.
In line of BOP’s standard operating procedure we’re doing a single event in order to build something stable and grow from there. The Student Uni Cup is very much an experiment into what can be achieved before moving onto bigger and better things. So far teams from Gloucester, UWE Bristol, Keele, Staffordshire, Kent and Loughborough have signed up. This should make it an interesting mix of established tournament teams, rookies and woodsball teams. Some of the players involved here have bravely agreed to play this event without much in the way of kit or experience. As such efforts are being made to provide a modest amount of equipment so that the new guys needn’t spend the day getting stomped on by the teams that have all their own gear.
So, what's actually happening on the 7th and 8th April then? The event will be split into two parts, with the Saturday being a day for everyone to meet up, get to know each other, walk the fields, get a bit of practice in and see how the other groups play. Afterwards comes the pitching of tents, lighting of campfires and yes, lets be honest, drinking. Lots of drinking.
The tournament itself will be taking place on the Sunday morning. The format will be 5man Race to 2. We will have paint available from Celtic and also GI Milsim/Dark Sports and those lovely people at LiPS and Planet Eclipse have provided some of the new Eclipse Etha markers for use.
