If you have a bad bore match, will this make a huge difference in air efficiency? Also anything else i can do with a stock ion to increase shots from same amount of air ? :> (will get a qev in the future when my bank balance isnt £6

Not really - I used a 0.691 all last season, and was able to get 4pods and a Halo from my 0.7l tank (full, cool 4500psi fill).
As for tuning - you can drop the dwell down a few points, but unless you use decent, fresh batteries and quality paint this can cause some velocity fluctuations.

See i know everyone says 'fresh batteries every event', but HOW does it make a difference? Its not like the output from the battery changes as it goes down. Obviously if the battery is almost dead you'll start getting problems, but i used the same battery at 4 events, never took it out of the marker (as that can save power) and it still works now.
Then again i might change it now as its been a while, but for those events i had 0 problems. Smegs were due to having ****e paint, that we knew was going to be crap when we got a hold of it.

I have an Ion in my team, that I built that runs 1100 shots from a 1.1 4500...so yes, you can make them more eficient.
A bad barrel to paint match will mildly affect efficiency, as will lots of porting and a long barrel.
The main concern with paint to barrel is accuracy can be hindered...still, there is a train of thought that sasy, at least with a large bore barrel, you know your paint will come out!
