Hello everyone,
I'm totally new and just would like someone to share a bit of general experience in paintball.
Couple of typical stuff will do. Like what gun you started with/How do you practise/Costs/Do you train "not only in paintball sites"...

Hi

I'm a newbie as well but I've been speaking a friend who got me into the sport and has been playing for a while. Brands wise Planet Eclipse is a strong build quality and good accuracy, as well as this Dye is good and Proto is a cheaper Dye. For me a case of 2000 balls costs £50 and lasts me a good 4-5 hours of play time. I use my friend's Dye DM9 which is really lightweight and accurate :) Hope this helps aha.

My first time played paintball was at a mate's stag do at a local field. Then I started building up interest into the sport and obviously bought my first marker which was a BT4 slice. It was quite a mistake thinking back now, but meh...I spent the first few months of balling just doing some walk-ons and eventually I started doing training with some of the local lads for a tenner to use the field. Now I either train at local field doing drills by myself or a bit of amateur cycling outside but that's about it really, I'm really not much of a gym enthusiast lol

I went a few years ago with some biker mates, then a stag do. After that decided I quite fancied a go at it properly, mentioned it to my mate who used to play half seriously years ago and we both ended up getting kitted up and going along to the NvS 2 year ago.

Started off with a very secondhand etek 1 which has been absolutely brilliant and never let me down despite looking completely shagged and having no eyes.

My mate got an ego 11 and had no end of trouble with it, probably due to constant faffing. I acquired it from him, serviced it (not that there was anything mechanically wrong) and put everything back to default and it works a treat.

I just do scenario stuff and walk ons I'm not into tournaments

went to a rental site with a mate of mine (james) and an old friend of his i didn't really know (luke) Luke had played before because his mum worked at the site, so he'd got roped into some tournaments, so he was like pro to us.

End of the day and Luke turns to James and said "you'd make a really good paintball player" and said nothing to me. So I wanted to prove him wrong and show him I'd make a better paintball player than he ever was. Fast forward a couple of years and I ended up playing SPL in the mills, and retiring afterwards, I'd got further than luke, so I'd won.

Then Luke started playing again, and obviously I couldn't let him get ahead. Lukes now my best mate and team mate on Entity. But still hasn't played SPL... **** you @hipjaw

There are a couple super old school players on here so they probably started out like I did.

Picture it...Sicily...1932...

HAH, seriously though, 1990 or '91. The local Army/Navy Surplus store has some Orange Nelson paintballs in 10 round tubes. We'd buy a couple and use some wrist rockets out in the woods to shoot at each other, using ski goggles.

Then guys got PGP's, Nelspots, Rapides, I was woefully outgunned and picked up a Tippmann SL-68, I don't think I even had auto trigger, and definitely no external velocity adjustment, you had to remove the bolt and move the set screw.

It all snow balled from there.

Hi

Pretty new as well but have played on corporate days parties etc etc over the years

I guess it started when my son went to friends paintball party, he loved it and wanted to go again so i agreed to with him and a couple of his mates. I then got hooked as well and we had a couple of goes at running round the woods shooting people. Roll on a year and we now play for a team in Sup Air looking forward to upcoming CPPS season in the West Midlands, we train at least once a month come rain, shine or snow!

Kit wise the first thing to get is a good mask, if you cant see or are not comfortable you can't play! Another good investment I've found is a bounce vest, helps to take the sting out of being shot a bit. After that it was a marker, hopper, air bottle and pack to carry pods, following that it was lots of other bits and pieces. It can be an expensive sport!!!! If I can suggest a supplier, the guys at Just Paintball are great and full of advice if you give them a call, tell them what you want to do and what your budget is and they can help you out, quick delivery as well.

One decision you will need to make is whether you want to play Sup Air with inflatable bunkers or stick to the woods and play scenario type games. Of course you can do both and we still like to walk onto our local site and run around the woods from time to time.

I wish you well on your journey and welcome to the sport and the forum where I've found so much good advice and information

Cheers

My first intro was a rental game with work mates in 1988 shooting a Sheriden PGP pistol

I was hooked on the game from day one, and after several more rental days, bought my own kit (Nelspot 008 pistol) and started playing walk-ons, before joining Split Personalities in 1990. Initially I was shooting pistols and pump guns, but gradually the game went to semi auto. In fully mechanical mode at first and then electro semi by the late 90's

The rest as they say is history... 25 years worth of buying, selling and upgrading kit, walk-ons, 3, 5, 7 and 10 man woodland tournaments, UWL, and more recently Supair (Southern masters) with Unlimited

I started following the sport via magazines and the early internet in the late 90s after I randomly picked up a copy of PGI from WH Smiths. I'd been wanted to play for a few years but was too much of a lazy poor coward to put together a trip. Summer 2001 was the first time I played as a rental customer with a bunch of friends on a birthday trip at Skirmish Nottingham. I spent an absolute fortune on paint but I was hooked. Played a couple more times as a rental soon afterwards, visited a few tournaments to watch and played NvS in 2002 before starting to work at Skirmish as a marshal later in '02. Used money from that, odd jobs and student loan to finance getting kit and playing tournaments. Played my first full season of events in 2003 as part of the site team. Played a few years of tourney ball but dropped out for a year for a number of reasons or so before getting back into the game with scenario events and walk-ons.

I'm considering a comeback to tournaments but I'm not sure .

EDIT: The first gun I used that wasn't rental kit was my brother's right feed mechanical auto cocker, I borrowed various Angels for a while before buying my own very pretty custom Smart Parts Impulse
