ok, im looking at buying a tipperman custom 98. to start with i will only be using it for fun and a few games, not comp. all the reports state to change the barrel. so what do you reccommend?
b4 all the comments come, i dont have an unlimited budget, i survive very well on the field through some skills and not fire power alone, but it would be nice to buy a gun with minimum ball chop, good accuracy and not so bad home maintenance, i think field maint is a bit much at the mo. thnx for any help.

mag or cocker on co2 or cheap air would be good. The 98 is VERY reliable and is pritty good for a newbie but if i was you sort ure self out with somewhere to play and save for a 2nd hand marker cause in the long run it will be worth it look at some e spyders they aint bad for the money. Hav a look around and dont rush for the first marker u see.

Put a thread up on class and see what you find state how much you have.

good starter markers (in order of goodness)

automag
autococker
pirahna
non-electro spyders

these are all reliable and perform well, most can be bought second hand at a really good price, but spyders are cheap evn when new.

if you have a little more cash impulses are great, very fast and very reliable.

for barrels look for a DYE excel or a smart parts progressive, the DYE being the better of the two

I'd agree with Toole - a second hand automag would be an ideal first marker.

They're cheap as anything second hand, made out of stainless steel so they're virtually bombproof and unless they've had some seriously botched DIY upgrades can be made as good as new by spending £12 on a spares kit and replacing all the o-rings.

Plus they've got probably the best online support resource of any paintball company at http://www.automags.org
