Hi Rhys, welcome to the world of paintball and all the many decisions you will have to make from here on in.

firstly everyones going to ask you what you want to play? sup air, or woods. You don't have to stick with it really though as if you get the right paintball marker you can have lots of fun in both.

Just incase you don't know: Sup air or tournament as some people like to call it is a bunch of pumped up guys hiding behind big inflatable barriers trying to hit eachother with paint while posing for the camera. I'm assuming you've already played woodsball if your looking into buying a marker.

Right back to buying a paintball gun. Most people would advise purchasing a 2nd hand marker from the forum as you can get quite a variety of paintball markers here for a good price, and everyone is always looking to get rid of a spare marker or two that they have collected over the years.

If you give us a little idea of how much you have to spend and what you are looking to play i'm sure most people would love to provide you with a little friendly advice.

What sort of budget are you on? and what style of play? I also advise getting a HPA tank (high pressure air) instead of Co2 tank. Why? because HPA isn't effected by weather unlike Co2 where the colder it gets, the pressure reduces which means you'll not be shooting very far and it will just ruin your day. Co2 will shorten the life of your marker as it will screw up your markers internals. Where as HPA will work in any climate and keep the same pressure, range, FPS and accuracy. Like zendeejay said... take a look at some second hand markers, you can find a real bargin every now and then.

I would save an extra £100 up and get everything on this forum, second hand and will last you a lot longer before you find the need to upgrade.

But if thats not an option, looking at those two packages i would go with the second hand tippmann package if you are looking to play woodsball. There are lots of parts around for your gun and you can buy and upgrade it as you go along.

The new package on offer, i would expect you would be looking to change most of it after a month ;)

scrap getting heavy mechanical 'woodsball' guns and definately scrap the co2 tank, as well as the shake and shoot hopper.
have a look at my longest answer to date on all starter equipment HERE

If your on a tight budget I'd have a look for second hand. But if you wanna buy a brand new marker I wouldn't go for the tippmann 98 , I'd get a BT4 Combat as they are easier to take apart and clean and you can do way more to a BT4. For example; you can mod it to look like an M4,M16,MP5,AK47 and lots more where as with a tippmann 98 you can never change some parts of the gun such as the handle at the front. Tippmann 98's are also a pain in the ass when taking them apart sometimes, like when the feedneck clamp spring flys out never to be seen again and you have to get a new one. I own a Tippmann Bravo One which is just a Tippmann 98 on the inside that looks like a M4 carbine on the outside and I have gone through 2 of those feedneck clamp springs in less than 6 months .If you want to buy second hand, have a look for Tippmann A5's, they are awesome woodsball markers and come stock with a cyclone feed.

Above is the definition of "biased".

You're mis-informed buddy. And clearly have never played sup air (or that's the impression you give). You'll be a walk-on only player I presume?

My advice would be to get a second hand marker on here. An etek or something along those lines. And as Liam said, definitely check out his stickied thread.

I'm far from mis informed, if you actually look at how i have structured the reply you'll notice thats i have given my entire responce as nice and friendly but with a jovial over tone (i'm not a kid so won't be hanging every sentance with a lol or a smiley) and i've been playing Tournament paintball for around 3yrs now. The post was an attempt at a freindly informative but not so long i will bore the tits off you approach. If you took the wrong end of the stick then thats up to you.
