Hello everybody!

I saw the "Best team in UK... period" thread and thought that if anyone is interested I should put these results of the Finnish paintball league here. These are the results from the last round and the final standings in all categories.

As you can see, in Finland almost every team (from the top) participates the League as it is great tounaments or at least a good tourament practice day for Millennium. That is because League teams play only each other and you don't get too easy games during the day.
Even the teams which play Millennium regulary in Am A(Cyclone, Takeover, Urho, Dream Team...) and some attend in States now and then (like Cyclone) want to play it. (Only Evolution, most likely to win AmB in Mill, is out of it) In these three levels plays 39 teams out of something like 50 serious teams we have in Finland.

League (7-man), 1st Division (7-man) and 2nd Division (5-man) are organized by Finnish paintball federation and are aimed to provide top class paintball in affordable expences for the players. Every team has to marshall one event. Next year we have to add a new entry level, as 2nd division is a bit too competetive for the new, starting teams.

So, Here are the results from the last round last weekend:

Finnish League:

1. Clone
2. Dream Team
3. Takeover
4. Cyclone
5. Plague
6. Nokkapokka
7. Raakakone
8. Viper
9. Ballrogs

1. Division:

1. Flashback
2. Skistyler
3. Sisso
4. Takeover Silver
5. LVP
6. Creditor
7. RumaQ
8. Nitrox
9. Wasted

2nd division:

1. Old Tom Gunners
2. Takeover Bronze
3. Breakout
4. Plague Rats
5. Iso K
6. Furious Goblins
7. El Fiera
8. Xistence
9. Paranoid
10. Team UC
11. Nääsville Predators
12. Gaylord

And the final standings:

League:

1. Dream Team 34 p
2. Cyclone 33 p
3. Clone 33 p
4. Takeover 28 p
5. Urho 26 p
6. Plague 26 p
7. Quality Sky 25 p
8. Raakakone 19 p
9. Quality High 18 p
10. Nokkapokka 18 p
11. Ballrogs 15 p
12. Viper 14 p

(Playing Millennium seems to help, top 5 teams have attented this year in AmA, 6th and 7th in AmB... )

Ballrogs and Viper drop down to the 1st division for the season 2004.

1. Division:

1. Coitus 34 p
2. Flashback 33 p
3. Skistyler 31 p

8. RumaQ 22 p
9. LVP 20 p
10. Wasted 18 p
11. Nitrox 16 p
12. Unknown 14 p

Coitus and Flashback get the league spots for the season 2004.
Nitrox and Unknown go down to 2nd.

2. Division:

1. Breakout 69 p
2. Furious Goblins 55 p
3. Old Tom Gunners 54 p
4. Iso K 49 p
5. Plague Rats 41 p
6. El Fiera 33 p
7. Paranoid 30 p
8. Team UC 29 p
9. Gaylord 23 p
10. Xistence 18 p
11. Nääsville Predators 17 p
12. Takeover Bronze 17 p
13. Päivi ja Pojat 16 p
14. Quickshot jnr. 11 p
15. Pbt B.S.E 10 p

Breakout and Furious goblins need to get ready for the 7-man 1st division!

After I read the "Hack'n'slash" thread about the best team in UK I wondered why couldn't UKPL be something like this in future also...
You just have to make sure that the dates wouldn't be the same than in millennium and some NPPL/PSP events (we checked that with the teams).
Can you get a better practice day for the big leagues than if you had teams like Shock, Tigers, Nexus, Storm, Ecstasy, Kellys etc. playing together like 4 times during the season? And in the end of the year you guys WOULD know which is the best team over there! In the lower divisions the system could split to the regional divisions. And finally droppings and risings from division to other after the season would make it just as other sports.

I know we have a great system in our team and we are benefiting from the finnish league system. We have 25 guys in our training roster and we have three competetive squads (one in each division). It's propably a bit like Shock's team roster? We have young and hungry future superstars in our squads eager to show what they can be.

I think that if we want to be like the other sports, we should try to copy the series systems and ways to build teams and grow new players that have been tested before.

..just to give you guys some thoughts.
If you want to know more, just send me an e-mail to juho@kokoomus.fi or come to talk to me in Campaign. The guy with glasses, playing for Takeover.

same guys who play for cumshot probably

Juho, it's interesting to hear about the Finnish League, but it's not really something that people have opinions on over here.

Maybe their name gives some clue why they were last In the lowest division ;-)

Well, I wasn't expecting any interest about developing the Finnish league!
What I ment was that maybe explaining our working system would give some clue for the conversation about WHAT IS WRONG IN UKPL! As so many threads here seem to think so... I mean what's the point playing a league if you are not able to sort out which team is the best in UK in the end of the season?

That's what I was talking about...

Cheers guys!

good point Juho.

One thing i noticed, a lot of these leagues and ranking systems are setup after the games (or a portion of the games) are played.
In a proper football league, teams know which matches are important, so they play the league accordingly. If there were better national league structures, then perhaps teams would focus more on domestic play and give it as much attention as international play?
