Fill Nipple Size

I recently bought a bottle second hand off the forum. It's a DXS 1.1l 4500psi.

I've just been to a walk-on with it for the first time and I could not fill it up as I could not get the air hose on to the fill nipple. The fill nipple seems too big for the air hose and you can't push it all the way on. There isn't any really obvious damage to the outside of the nipple.

Most people didn't have a problem with the air hoses at the site, although at least one other person did say he had to really force it on to his bottle.

I'm a bit concerned as I assumed all the fill nipples would be a standard size. Can anyone explain what the problem might be?

they are a standard size, it's just that yours is worn. Replace it.

Thanks for the reply, a couple of things...

Firstly, it does appear like it could be slightly wider in diameter than the fill nipple on my PMI steel bottle. Although it's impossible to tell for sure without callipers.

Secondly, if I gently attack what feels like a slight burr with a piece of sandpaper am I likely to make the thing dangerous?

Thirdly, are fill nipples rated to a particular pressure? Could I pinch one off my 3000psi steely?

It's High pressure air mate, best being safe and buying a new fill nipple.

They're only around £5

All fill nipples should be standard size but i have noticed some nipples do have a slightly wider diameter. Either get the site to change the fitting to accept your bottle or purchase a replacement.

I've ordered one of these and some teflon tape. Hopefully that will do the trick.

Funny you should mention standard sized fill nipples
I got a Smartparts SIS preset reg with there new recessed fill nipple and i cant get the fill nipple to fit any fill rig for the love nor money and i have tried six different rigs at four different paintball sites without any fill rigs fitting,i have compared it to a standard fill nipple in my tool box and the raised part in the centre of the nipple is longer and wont allow the collar on the fill rig fitting to snap shut...

Well, went to Tower Paintball this evening and had no real trouble getting the air hose on to my bottle. Must not be completely standard sizes for all nipples and air hoses. Maybe its just a bad combination with my bottle and the hoses at Warren Wood.
