Eventhough I enjoyed the event very much, there was something that I didn't like so much. We haven't played any major event for more than a year, so I can't comment on previous tourneys, but the field designs in Toulouse made the games extremely fast. Now I know that many of you will disagree with me here, saying that faster is better, but as a player and spectator I didn't enjoy it so much.

I don't remember many games that lasted more than 3 min. I have also seen/played games that lasted not more than 40 seconds. Some of the games were so quick even the teams (both losing and winning) couldn't understand why and when it was over. Nobody like losing very fast but I also didn't like the games we won very quickly. As a back player I don't remember many games that I shot more than 4 pods (Yeah OK, I'm not a Dynasty back player)

When the games finish so quickly it takes the joy of being in the game, the amount of stress, excitement, adrenaline, everything is so little that you don't get enough of it. I'm %100 sure that same goes for the spectators. They wait long for a good game and it's over before they knew what happened.

Eliminating tapelines, putting many huge bunkers in the middle made advancing to the 50/60's TOO easy, making the games TOO short. Nobody likes very slow games where you shoot cases of paint without changing bunkers or pushing forward, but I think this was too much and it's not good for players and for spectators. We all go there to have fun and after spending so much time and money we expect games lasting longer than 30 seconds.

I absolutely loved them.
Here in England the fields are usually really badly set up, these were a breath of fresh air.

We got done by a division 1 tream in under 3 minutes on the JT field. The next game on that field we went on and beat the other team in about 40 seconds.

Good stuff :D  :D

these were the best fields i've played on to date.

They're way better than any english fields, the field designers need over here really need to start coppying Millennium fields...

Murat,

I wasn't in Toulouse, so don't know what the fields were like. The other feedback suggests that they were exactly what players are looking for now. As you've said, you haven't played a major tournament in over a year. The sport is definately speeding up (as can be evidenced by the current X-ball revolution).

Is this a good thing??? Who knows...

I understand where you're coming from in relation to the money spent/field time ratio, but that seems to be what people (spectators and players alike) are asking for. Perhaps it needs to go to the extreme for people to start asking for field designs to slow down. Perhaps X-ball will become the more dominant format if regular games are this short.

That's just the way things are at the moment. It'll change.

Well, I don't know how they design the fields in UK, but I was comparing these fields to the setups in major tournaments from past years. They weren't like we were playing in slow motion but they were lasting just long enough so everybody was enjoying it.

Forget the players (I'm sure you'll love it when you roll over a team in just 30sec) but I guarantee that spectators (especially the ones new to pball) are not enjoying when a game lasts a minute or so. As a seasoned player i also couldn't have fun in many big games. You wait there, under the sun for 45min, to watch a game and it's all over in a few minutes.

I personally like it more if I'm in the game longer so I get more of the adrenalin. In Toulouse we had to run to get air, fill the pods, clean/check equipment, chrono, go to the field (if you were to play in fields 1&2, it was a looong walk), wait there another 15-20min, go thru long checking procedures and finally get into the field. This all lasted not less than 40-50min and we couldn't even get a chance to rest more than 5-10min. After all that preparation you get to play a game of 1 MIN. That's what I didn't like so much, but I respect the general oppinion. If the majotity likes this way, so be it, I'll still play the game...short or long

Murat,
I agree that the amount of time spent kitting up compared to getting to and from the fields was very high, and if you like slower games then thats fine too.

But most spectators I know enjoy watching moves like bunker runs etc.

Most non-paintballers cant work out who someone is shooting at.

You could be doing a really good job of keeping a guy in his bunker, but to a spectator it looks like you are shooting at nothing.
