The Federation had a very productive committee meeting on Thursday the 4th March. The committee agreed that many positive steps have been taken in our first year together and remain convinced that a centralised industry led approach is our best chance of ensuring stability and growth in UK Tournament Paintball.
It was agreed that the committee should prepare an extensive statement detailing the events of the past 12 months as seen by the Federation, and clearly stating its current position and intended future actions. This will be ready in the next few days.
Rich Harris gave a well received presentation to the committee on the aims and plans for the CPPS series in 2010 and beyond.
It was agreed that the Fed will once again present the Federation Cup in September 2010, and that all efforts will be made to make the event bigger and better than the inaugural event in October 2009. It was agreed that all member companies will support the 2010 Fed cup with a prize pool unprecedented in UK domestic paintball.
The Fed has spent the past 12 months evaluating the UK tournament setup and making basic steps towards a co-ordinated approach. The members are conscious that this has not always been well received and can all too easily be perceived as the Fed dictating or preaching to tournament organisers or teams – however the facts are the facts and UK tournament ball is smaller now than it was 5 or even 10 years ago. Quite simply, the Fed believes that the model of a complete commercial free-for-all in the provision of competitive events has NOT bred stability into the game, and has NOT resulted in growth either in actual numbers or in the public perception of tournament paintball.
There is much to be done to change the way the competitive side of the game is structured, we recognise that this cannot be done overnight but are committed to ensuring that the UK tournament player will eventually be able to compete within the kind of professional, structured system enjoyed by virtually all other sports.
This of course cannot be done without the patience and support of the playing community and becomes very difficult without the understanding and co-operation of the tournament promoters. We are pleased to announce that NSPL and CPPS remain in full support of the Fed. We regret the recent breakdown in relations with the UK Masters but remain committed to an inclusive approach and to finding common ground with the organisers.
It was agreed that the Fed should invite representation from the player base to attend the Fed committee meetings, and members agreed to establish a process for the players to elect the representative(s). It is expected this will increase transparency and help facilitate a position of trust and co-operation between the Fed and the player base.
Watch out for a fuller statement very soon and details of our plans for the Feds role in the 2010 season.
