How seriously does everybody take the issue of physical fitness in paintball?
It seems to me that it always gets brushed aside as 'players personal responsibility'. But, if Paintball is indeed a true 'sport' and not a game, shouldn't the question of physical conditioning be furthur forward in peoples minds.
You might not have to be Lingford Christie to shoot straight, but surely the fitter you are the better your performance?
You look at any other sport that moves from amatuer to proffessional you'll see that one factor that's nearly always put to rights is getting the players to run their asses round the block a few times.

When I say this i would like to haves games like darts stricken from the record.

I think Paintball as a sport lends itself towards any level of physical fitness. The pitches are pretty small and only short bursts of running is required. For the fuller figured gentlemen you have the back position and for the fast and small we have the front bunkers. If we want the sport to look sexy then we will need some young slim sexy players (including myself) but this isn't really required for paintball. We have plently of fuller figured lads who are good/great players like Ledz (Banzi) and Pete (Mayhem Tigers) I don't think fitness is an issue. 10 pints and a good kabab the nite before a tourney, now that's pre match exercise at it's best, followed by a couple of tactical chunders. (The more the better!)

It comes down to the fact that you don't see a 100% connection between athletic guys winning versus guys that aren't. Ever see the number of cigarette butts and pizza crusts lying on the ground at a tournament? It doesn't ever decrease, nor does the presence of people smoking and eating them in the semis and finals brackets. When you see teams with overweight people leaving a day early every time and people in shape not, then you will see their presence disappear.

Doesn't Matter

As a Brit having been to my first baseball game at Fenway Park in Boston last year I have come to realise that physical fitness in a sport really doesn't matter at all - you should see some of the porkers!

I mentioned this to a couple of locals behind me who said that it was strategy that matters, not fitness - sort of like PB.

Still, complete conversion here, brilliant game. So good I went back every night I was there - Go Nomo, Manny, etc.

That would be SWEET!!!! I hate running on the break even though I play front(duh, 5'7, 14 years old, can only afford about 1 extra pot a game) I don't like to run on the break. That would be sooooooooooo cool.:D
