Hey there, i have a problem ...

My username is "steroberts" and i changed emails the other day, firstly i put it in wrong, and came to investigate when the activation mail didnt arrive and i changed it to my correct one.

So now its down as ste@familyroberts.plus.com which is correct, but the activation mail will not arrive at my account, i have checked spam mail and everything, but it is not there.

So i created this temp account to try and get some help on my old email pharaohband@btopenworld.com which soon should be deactivated.

Can someone please help me get my old one working and then delete this account?

Many Thanks :)

SteRoberts.

Yes the P8 forums email configuration was setup wrong when the server moved earier in the year, so most of us who do not use crappy hotmail or yahoo email addresses are not able to receive email messages via the forum.

None of the admins seem very interested in fixing the problem and before anyone says anything, it is the P8 server that is configured wrong and it is not a problem with the spam filters of the many hundreds of ISPs that reject mail from the P8 server.

All the admins have to do is stop sending out email messages with invalid SMTP envelopes, but they don't seem to care very much.

From memory the envelope of outgoing messages is something like root@ace.servermatrix.com and that is not a valid email domain, i.e. it has no MX record. Therefore as far as most mail servers on the Internet are concerned the mail is wrongly formatted and is just rejected as junk (not SPAM, but complete JUNK). The messages never get as far as the SPAM filters as they are not even addressed correctly.

It is really easy for a proper admin to fix, but I have yet to find the P8 admin who is vagely interested in the fact that the system was screwed up during the move and email no longer works.

So untill they get off there collective arses and fix it, do not change your settings unless you have a crappy yahoo mail account that is so nonstandard that it does not even bother checking that the SMTP envelope is formatted correctly.

Just incase an admin does read this, if you don't know how to configure the server properly why not just add an MX record to the DNS servers zone file for ace.servermatrix.com that would probably fix the problem, or better just configure the server to use a different address in the SMTP envelope, the address does not actually have to accept email so something like donotreply@p8ntballer-forums.com should be OK, assuming that p8ntballer-forums.com has a valid MX record setup.

At least that is what seems to be going on, and lets be honest if the servers mail configuration is not compatible with Sendmail then it is not worth using not is it.

Maybe there are better things that the Site Admin can be doing? I mean, c'mon its:

A: Only Paintball

B: Only the Internet

and C: It's free!

Well obviously I am not going to cry Pinky, but I really do not like servers I use being setup so wrong, if I had the access rights I would have fixed it by now myself and for free.

Come one this is me, I even wrote to Microsoft to tell them how they had Hotmail configured wrong and sure enough less than a month later they has completely rewritten the offending routines to stop me complaining about their bad manners.

No there are probably a great many people on these boards that could and would be willing to fix the problem if asked, come on quite a large percentage of the UK paintball scene works in IT during the week.

It is the management that does not seem interested in having the server configuration changed to something a bit more compatible with current Internet technologies.

It will probably look like a problem at your end, but you will probably find that your mail server is configured just how it should be, as if someone sends you a message addressed from mr.blobby@theplanetmars.bollocks or reallyinterestingoffer@somedomainnamerandomlygeneratedbyaspammer.info you don't really want to be bothered wasting any more system resources on it than dropping the connection.

Can't wait untill "reverse MX records" come into use half the forums in the world will be stopped from sending out emails :p
