expansion chambers arnt a necessity, they are more to stop liquid co2 from entering your gun, most guns work on co2 as a gas not in liquid form. so if liquid is drawn it may expand in your marker and be too higher pressure,
basically an expansion chamber is a further method of preventing co2 from entering your gun by giving it time to expand
if ime wrong please tell me!!

expansion chambers have basically one reasons for being.
one to prevent as CO2 entering the gun in liquid form. This means that you will not freeze your gun and have a chance of damaging it. As it has been duely pointed out if the gas enters in liquid form it can expand and damage the marker. Also, in theory, if the gas is expanded the flow of gas will be the same resulting in more constant shots which, in theroy will help your aiming, also the xchambers make your gas last longer, or so they say.

The one I have fitted to my Spyder did make my shots more consistant. It had the problem of not working during the winter though. Granted, this only occured when it was REALLY cold but was a bit of a pain. Had to take it off when that happened. Someone once told me it was because the Expansion Chamber thinned the gas too much before it got to the marker. Don't know how accurate that was.

Idont think the thinning part is very accurate. I read an article that explains in detail the problem with cold weather in palmer's page. www.palmer-pursuit.com

Basically is says something about the CO2 not having enough time to expand, speciallly when in rapid fire.
