And how to make it fit the unique situation and conditions of Europe.

Steve, since you had such a lengthy disussion with Laurent, can you please give us all some idea of what's going to happen next year.

Nick, Simon, et al,

It is a very delicate balance. I agree that we need two or three more bunkers than we have had, especially to block the lanes that are too wide open.

But I'm of the opinion that you can easily go too far the other way. Too many bunkers can turn the game too much into one of chance the same way as making it very difficult to get to a key position can.

Wild idea: how about obstacles that can move at the top but are firm on the bottom. What are they called, wobblies? Dynamic bunkers!

What about a pendulum that swings and gives a good shot or exposes a player at certain intervals.

Let's use our imaginations.

Steve

There are obviously a lot still to be decided but the indications I get from my conversations with Laurent and Mike Ratko is there is going to be some serious X Ball in Europe. And L believes like me that we can get Americans over here SEASON 2004 in some kind of way. When the weekly series begins (most likely Season 2005) that will not likely be possible (even though the players themselves really want to come to Europe and play as often as possible.)

Can't elaborate more because there is still a lot of issues that yet need to be addressed, but we will try our best to sort things out at a meeting or two at Campaign.

Moving bunkers ?

Let's not make paintball into something that resembles a playground or a game of Lasertag !

And - if you are worried about things being left to chance, moving bunkers is the worst idea !

Adding 10 more bunkers to an X-ball field won't make it a game of chance - the quality of the players is much too high for that.... it just makes for a more fluent and fast paced game - that is more exiting to watch.

Nick
I just wanted peepz to start thinking outside the frame with my wobbly idea.:D

Too many obstacles usely equates to ease of movement from position to position which means it'll often be a dog-cat chase around in circles (slight exaggeration). I've seen it in practices with some of the best players.

Steve, so let me get this right, you and Laurent both think that you will be able to attract US teams over to play regularly in the EXL?
And I say regularly because unless it's regular, it means nothing.

OK, here's the real deal, at the moment the costs for running the NXL are horrendous, and I mean horrendous, that's for Richmond and also the team owners.
No monies will be streamed into the NXL until one of two things happens, either they sell up a franchise spot or they start getting it televised.
Now if you are saying that televising doesn't begin till 2005 then that means, the NXL has to run another year with little to no outside monies being pumped in leaving the team owners and sponsors still bleeding dollars all over the place.

Now if you and Laurent are suggesting that the sponsors and owners of any of the NXL teams are gonna send their teams over on a regular basis to play in the EXL, then the pair of you must be nuts.
Remember here the reason why the proposed NXL showcase was cancelled at Toulouse, it was because the team owners couldn't afford to do it !!!!!!
Thus far this season we have had Miami Effect and LA Ironmen as the sole representatives for the NXL, now the situation next year is gonna be even worse, financially speaking that is, so where the hell are these US teams coming from who will enter into the EXL ?
And don't forget here, you just said you intended to have a 'serious' EXL next year, well, as I see it, you can only have a 'serious' EXKL if you got some serious teams playing in it regularly and I have seen nothing in your post that holds water, so please elaborate as to what yours and Laurent's intentions are with regard to exactly what teams are gonna come and on what basis they will be coming.

I hesitated to answer with something half-baked because I knew you were looking for something to pounce on to contínue your defamation program.

Until we have some definite decisions about a definite and realistic program...when you ask me to elaborate, the answer is !non!

There very well MIGHT be an excellent program in Europe. How it develops and how it might achieve the goals we are looking to attain...you'll have to find out from someone else.

Let's get back to bunkers.

Steve

PS. There is always the remote possibility of their being some factors, situations, developments, bits of information, etc that, God-forbid, you don't know about!

There is absolutely no defamation program going on here whatsoever, I am merely trying to get you to see sense and to not keep filling the heads of Euro paintballers with fanciful possibilities.
The things you hint at have no substance, they have no basis in what I know to be happening out there.
Look back at other posts you have made regarding simliar questions I have asked, you have shifted your position more times than a geezer with ants in his pants.

Until we have some definite decisions about a definite and realistic program...when you ask me to elaborate, the answer is !non!

Yawn

Oh and there was me thinking you just had an hour and half conversation with Laurent discussing your EXCELLENT program in Europe for next year.
Well, if we can't find out from you, then who the hell do we find out from ?

PS. There is always the remote possibility of their being some factors, situations, developments, bits of information, etc that, God-forbid, you don't know about!

Now you have done this on a few occasions where you have hinted that you know something, well, I asked you before and you knew nothing, so I will ask you again, what do you think you know that could affect next year's proposed organisation of the EXL and please don't give us all the 'can't tell ya now' bit..it's wearing a bit thin.

Planet Piper away from you freaks!
He is a novel idea

Why don't we keep this on topic?

Steve
If you cannot say anything or are just having fun then please don't post things that make it sound like you know! Oh and Steve I was in Toulouse and I did see the finals and who was causing the trouble? Let me see...... Miami Effect and oh yeah Miami Effect... that well known XBALL Team :D :D

On topic!

If this is what happens when a new format arrives then to hell with it stick with 7 man, cos at least we know what the hell is going on with that!
