Do you guys think we have too many events?
I realise a lot of teams and players have their favourite series in which to play but for the purposes of this post, I'd like to concentrate upon those teams who wish to not only enjoy playing but also to ratchet up the adrenaline somewhat and eneter tournaments.

We all realise finances are at a premium and we therefore have to think about where we focus those resources ... but...we play this sport to play, not to train, and even though training is an integral part of playing, it is the latter that is the main reason we end up raping our wallets.

Are we so inundated with events to choose from that we end up with the very thing we don't need, a disorganized mish-mash of events of diminishing importance?

Please let us know what you guys think.

Is less, more?

I think a good idea would be a series which actually meant something like Cash prizes or something i understand its a lot easier to say it than actually do it but if theres a decent prize it may encourage harder training and raise the standard.
Its alright polishing your gear of at the end of the month to go play a tournament but your never going to get better without training for something thats worthwhile and worth making the sacrifices to win.

personally i think that even with tournie style players/teams there is a divide with those who play to win and improve (train reguarly etc) and those who rock up once a month to an event because they love it!

if there is a more limited amount of tournaments you may push certain types of team away.
As many teams are not keen on travelling across the country to play such events!
So is it not best to still have independent or the options of ones that people who are not interested in competing at a certain level or travelling so far can attend, as well as the structured system for those that are?

Ideally you want one recognised series or league with the same rules across the board so everone knows where they stand! And can see a result at the end of a hard fought season!

So your saying a higher level tournament with increased entry price with the chance of cash prizes next to an event with the same rules but on more of a recreation/fun sort of level?
If so i agree very much. We need teams to train as much as possible to get better so the overall standard is better.

spot on, the calender is jammed up with events which are run with no real structure, no real prizes, no end off season "pot of gold" to prove how good you are or how much better you have got.

The only real reason for playing them is generaly because they are close to home or cheap not because they are better than anything else.

Strange to read this as this year the overall number of events have been reduced, struture has been introduced (although it still has a way to go), and, with the NSPL and Masters at least, there is an end of season pot of gold in the form of the Federation Cup and the big prize fund it will be offering.

It must be said the only tournament i was tempted to pla this whole year was the nspl yesterday when reffing it, because it was a awsome venue, great field and it actually had a prize at the end which is way i would of personally ran it 3rd prize a box of paint and a trophy, 2nd two boxes and a trophy and 1st place was 3 boxes of good grade paint and a trophy now i dont know if thats every event or was just the last one but either way it was still something to work towards

Yeah i must say the nspl appears to be the most appealing and the paint is a good insentive but maybe things like free entry to the next event when you win a previous event encourages a good standard of teams to constantly attend events.

yes some structure, but the number of events has not gone down. There are so many new events springing up that any reduction by nspl and masters seem to just mean all the other dates are being filled up new tournaments, so in effect everything is still being watered down.
