I had an Etek 2 and it wasnt greatly gentle on paint to be honest. I imagine you can tune it up and get an upgrade bolt.

Ideally you should be able to, although when the paint gets REALLY fragile you may start having issues... Etek1 comes with a standard bolt without any design or grooves to reduce clipping on the ball stack or any facial design to reduce breaking paint.

The most recent design of cure bolt which would fit your etek is the planet eclipse cure4 bolt these are £35 brand new i believe (or close to that). The cure bolt would most definitely enable you to shoot the most fragile of paint!.

You could probably get a cure 2/3 bolt off here though for as little as £20, if you can that would be more than adequate for what you need the difference between them and the cure 4 is minimal from what ive noticed.

Are you certain its the stock bolt on your etek though?

Here's some pictures of the cure 1,2 and 3 bolts...

If you have a stock etek bolt it will not have any orings on it, that's the easiest way to spot it out..

Ok, judging by the pictures its a stock bolt, so will i be able to shoot brittle 5 star ( or equivalent ) paint out of it? dont want to buy a case then to have it chop up :p

I wouldn't like to say for definite, if im honest im sure the stock bolt would be fine for the majority of the time as long as the paint hasn't been left too long, stored incorrectly or if its really brittle.

When i first got an etek i immediately put a cure bolt in it as i knew it would help, ive never used the stock bolt with high grade tournament paint or any other fragile stuff so im not going to say for certain.

No i wouldn't recommend shooting 5 star through an original etek. while they were good for their generation, they aren't the softest hitting guns but a cure bolt would at least help with this.

I agree with Liam on this.... I have just upgraded from an etek 2 as I simply couldn't play a game without chopping paint at some point! At tourneys we shoot either 3 star or 4 star and the etek struggled (had a standard bolt) however with 1 star or site paint it worked a dream so it really depends on wether you will be shooting tourney grade paint all the time or wether you are using it in the woods etc.

Although the change of bolt could be the part of the cure for this so it may be worth a go :)
