A meeting was convened on 3rd February at the holiday Inn at Gatwick Airport with the following people in attendance:-
Laurent Hamet from the Millennium and Adrenaline
Steve Baldwin from Manic
Barry Fuggle from Phoenix
Pete Robinson from The Federation and P8ntballer.com
Steve Bull from the UKPSF
Tomasz Matuzezwski from the Polish Paintball Federation
Viktor Tohayev representing the Ukrainian Paintball federation
Manfred Ulrich from Maxs
Ulrich Stahr from the German Paintball League
Wolfgang Kornholz from the Austrian Paintball Federation
Patrice Guigou from the French Paintball Association
Laurent Hamet convened and chaired the meeting outlining an initiative which was to primarily discuss a working framework for the new European Paintball Federation [EPBF], an umbrella organisation to represent all member nations and acting as a coherent and organised interface to the outside world.
This outside world would of course include bodies such as the media, the general public, outside industries [potential sponsors] and governments.
Laurent handed out a template Federation Statute that was subsequently discussed with all details being either agreed upon for inclusion or excluded dependent upon each issue’s suitability.
General areas of discussion included aims and composition of the federation, its administration and operation, and any appropriate regulations that needed to be integrated into the statute.
General considerations such as financing, affiliations and the role of an EPBF congress that would be responsible for dealing with important issues faced when promoting the development of our sport were also discussed.
The congress will also be responsible for the election of the members to the executive board, the president and the control and revision commission.
The congress will primarily be made up of representatives from the affiliated federations and from members of the executive board and also the control and revision commission.
A great deal of progress was made in creating a practical consensus among those present with everybody agreeing upon the main points that included the federation’s goals, responsibilities and aspirations for the future.
This initiative has been a long time coming and the timing is crucial because European paintball is maturing fast and as such, we need appropriate representation and an administrative functioning structure.
Those present have long been recognised as individuals who have worked tirelessly for our sport in the past as many others have also done; this new federation will be open to all like-minded people who represent their national federations.
Laurent Hamet when calling an end to the meeting voiced his belief the meeting had been a great success and was optimistic for the future of both our sport and for this new European initiative.
A follow up meeting has been arranged for the weekend of the Longchamps event and so more details will be made available to the public before the 2nd Millennium Series event in Bittburgh.
The future looks good, the future's EPBF!
