For a long range, beginners woodball gun, which would be better/more accurate? A Tipppmann 98 with a barrel extension, or a Trracer pump?

with a replacement barrel on the 98 they'll perform about the same but the most important in regards to accuracy is the quality of paint you use. following that, barrel length doesn't really matter but again the quality does (the 98 has a pretty bad standard one).

you mention range and put simply every paintball gun has the exact same range, 300fps is 300fps regardless of what shoots it unless your using an apex or flat line barrel which puts backspin on the ball.

id advise avoiding the Trracer as a starter gun. Its a nice shooter but me and my mate started with them and whilst your learning, unless your playing against renters, it puts you at too much of a disadvantage. we ended up using site guns half the time as a result.

In all honesty? neither.
What do 98 customs and tracers run for? 100-130? something like that i reckon. Save yourself the time and money and buy something like a proto rail. Its a much superior marker and Just Paintball sells them for about £200 brand new. You can get them on the forums for about £120-£150 2nd hand. It'll be something you'll be a lot more likely to use and give you a significant advantage over a pump(tracer) or a semi-auto mech gun (98custom)

It would probably just be used against standard 98 customs though... So the trracer? Thing is though, I couldn't get a gas stock or Tacamo kit...

if you really want a mag fed pump gun the hammer 7 is basically a mag fed trracer.

However id strongly advise getting something a bit more functional / versatile and then spending the left over funds on playing so you can get a better feel for how you play and what you enjoy. I only say this cos lots of new people (myself + afore mentioned friend included) by something shiny / cool that they like the look of on the internet only to get out to the field and decide it doesn’t really work for them.

The trracers we bought were an ace laugh against total newbies but when we started to get more serious, and played people who knew which end of an inferno the paint comes out of, we got our arses handed to us. we ended up selling them for a loss and buying some cheap 98s so we could stay in a game long enough to get better.

I guess it depends what you want it for.

If you can't see yourself getting massively into paintball, but have some cash to blow on a low end marker for you to use on punter days and just want something different to the site guns then a pump is probably ideal.
It's cheap, simple and will cut costs down at punter days where paint is horrendously pricey.

Alternatively, if you're looking at getting seriously into paintball (woods or tournament) at any point - either of these as your first and main marker are a bad choice and you should listen to Strafingrun :)
