They are

the mutts nuts. They give a consistant feed of paint when you need it. Do you like having to shake your normal hopper every 10s to keep the flow of paint.

Not really had that problem, even when laying sideways on the ground. If the supply does run short, then a little rattle loosens them up. At £5 for 100 balls, I don't plan on covering the enemy in Dulux!

Joff...

...did you say you weren't a big fan of speedball? ;)

I'm forever having paint stuck in my hopper!!

I still don't get how these things work tho - do they just agitate the balls in the hopper, or do they physically push the balls down into the feed at an increased rate? And if so, what stops them from being squished?

AFAIK, they agitate the feed to the gun.

Speedball's ok, but Delta Force use metal barrels as bunkers - try sliding into those! And when paint is over a ton for a box... :(

the majority of hoppers just have a paddles, or spindle that litterlaly jumbles the paintballs around (like the national lottery machine) and makes sure balls are going into the feed tube and not just blocking it.

the Halo, and Warp Feed, are slightly differant.
They use a force feed system, which allows them to feed faster, and more consistently. The Halo uses a roulette wheel style approach and the Warpfeed uses a waterwheel / cog to feel the paint. both exceptional hoppers, just very expensive.

the only marker on the market that definatly doesnt need a 3rd party hopper is the tippmann A-5 which has a built in force feed hopper system (the "cyclone system") i think.

that help?

Yup, the A-5's got the Cyclone - nice idea, preloading the balls.

As I'm not really finding any problems with a £5 viewloader, I'd only upgrade to a cheap Rev.

thats fair.
its all down to the marker your using, and your style of play.

if someone is using a tricked up impulse, then they are gonna need something that puts paint into the breach as fast as possible to keep up with the marker.

If your using a semi blowback (inferno, spyder, Clone (of either)) then you are unlikely to have a problem, espacially because the kick of the marker will happily agitate the balls for you :D
